This may help some people out or at least save them some money if they are naked-ifying (that's my made up word for the day) their GL.
I did this as a temporary fix for test riding after trying to find stems. If bone stock is not a concern, JP Cycles sells the replacement lights pretty cheap. These lights have a ~ 1/2" inner diameter stem with bolt to clamp onto the mount. The forks of my GL 1000 had a threaded hole which was 1/4" diameter.
The solution. I went to the hardware store and bought two 1/4" threaded pipe nipples about 1" long and two 1/4" to 1/2" threaded adapter. The turnsignal slides over the 1/2" side and clamps with the bolt onto it, then the 1/4" nipple is screwed in to both the adapter and the forks. The end result places the turnsignal light right off of the forks with the wires hiding inside the stem. Nearly stock looking for less than $5 of plumbing supplies.
Hope this helps.
Sam

I just did pretty much the same thing except I used OEM turn signals. Thought I was clever. Then found this thread from 2 1/2 years prior.
My results with pictures.
