Well, the bike did. Since I joined this forum, I've wanted to de-fairing the GL. I always wanted a naked bike but I've loved the fairing for the long road trips and cold mornings. Nice and sunny today, so I did it. Rode a little around town. Oh My G...! Ya Ya, I know, a totally different bike. It is. At least it seems like it is to me.
Feels smaller, lighter, I can see the front wheel and I sware(must have been an echoy fairing) it sound different. However; I can see I need a small windshield. I'm not riding with the helmet shield down all the time.
One thing at a time.
I love the way it looks sitting the the garage too.
Thanks for the inspiration.

The ONLY way to fly!! now we can see that beautiful butter cream yellow paint. NOW you need to open the pipes ,add some small driving lights and some low amp L.E.D. running lights .......way kooool!!!!

Well, it'll stay naked for a while, however; I do not like the wind noise in my helmet or the wind pressure on my chest and the aerodynamics my helmet is going through. Can't see with the visor open and sunglasses on at speed AND it's cold!
With that said, I totally like the way it handles, accelerates and sounds without the fairing. Looks like a small windshield is in order though.

p.s. must have been 60 degrees today. What a day for a ride, short as it was.

T, actually that's yellow crome from NAPA. All I could find on the short notice. Looks ok for now.
I DID NOT like the wind in my face this morning. Cool noisy and very foggy. Glasses and coat very wet when I got to work. I did however take the long way in to work.
Spring is on the way.

So, where did you get all the materials for hooking your headlight back up? Did you have it already?
I removed my fairing, and have just a rear part of the headlight left (bucket?). I don't have the 'guts' (adjuster, etc.), or ring. Anyone know of a good source?

I don't know what year your wing is but, if you have a vetter faring, the headlight unit in the faring ( guts and bulb) will transplant to the wing bucket......try it... let me know...............T.

Before my 82 std. I had the 77 GL1000 with the vetter fairing . I took that off and yes apllied the headlight pod onto the stock wing's headlight mounting brackets , Yes it can be done .
