Found an 81 CX500, 5500 original miles, well taken care of. All original except for the grips. The owner is asking $1500. BBook is around $850. I have no experience with these bikes but from conversations on this site and comments from Randakk, I have become intrigued. I test drove the bike tonight and it runs out great. Any thoughts to the actual value?? I have an 81 CB750K with only 3800 original miles and this would make a great sister bike. Any and all thoughts are appreciated.

Hey CJ, I loved my cx500, drove it for years, and have watched them come and go. The 800 price is more realistic from what I have seen. best little work horse I ever rode.

With that low mileage, I wouldn't feel bad about spending up to $1100 on a CX, provided it's in excellent mechanical and at least fair cosmetic condition. Mine was purchased with 16K in good running condition for $400, to give you an idea of what kind of deals you can find.

I bought an '78 CX500 in 2003 for $750. After new paint and some cosmetic stuff sold it in 2008 for $1100. I guess common sense says that any bike is only worth what the market is willing to pay. I lived near a college town so prices were kind of inflated.

I got mine(81 gl 500) for 900 with only 9,330 miles and thought that was very fair,,with that low miles I think 11 or even 12 is not bad , I think the blue books don't consider low mileage versions like this . You can't get a better bike for less. Lets see a picture.

Sounds like a find, hardly enough miles to keep it in shape.
If its been well cared for I'd offer up to 1200.

Chef, my 81 silverwing has same mileage and same price but it had to have carbs rebuilt. Now it is in livingroom getting dressed and all I lack is wiring the fairing up. Now my Streak is a 79 CX and I saw a guy ride it to the store and asked him about it. a month later he was willing to sell it for 700 and I rode it home. Currently undressing that one and gonna do other mods to it. You are right about "book" values. They are static and not much help.
