Anyone have a Honda cross reference parts book?

Anyone have a Cross reference book on Honda?

Can the (HM 447 - 448 / From 1981 CM400T Custom) exhaust system be used on a 1978 gold wing 1000?

I have these & I was wondering if they would interchange at the Exhaust collector connection to the Headers. They are the Megaphone type Mufflers.

Thanks in advance.

Randy.

Exhaust system

Post by Wing84 »

Hi Ran429

If I am not mistaken the exhaust pipe from the CM400 are design as a 2 in 2 so each pipe is desing to handle the exhaust volume of a 200cc only each two revolution as the bike is a four stroke and the Wing you have is a 1000cc so each time one cylinder will exhaust it will be the volume of a 250cc but twice as often as you will have two cylinder on the same pipe. It will not cause any problem a low rpm but as soon the rpm will increase the flow could become too much for the muffler tip as the second cylinder on the same side will double the flow. The result can be a lost of power and lots of back pressure on the exhaust valves(not a good thing to have), unless you totally gut out the pipe! than nothing will matter, well except the noise!

ok, thanks.
I could open the baffles and have a louder bike but then it would sound horrible with open megaphones.
Going to have to save a little and get the straight pipes I want.

The idea of information on what parts fit what other models is a good idea.

To start this off the front discs on the following models are interchangable
GL1100, GL1200, CB750 & CB900 (the first 4 valve in line 4 models)
GL1000 and GL1100 valves
GL1200 and GL1500 front brake and clutch master cylinders (they look completly different but will fit and work)

Great idea ran429, there are a lot of question about parts fit other models.

GL1000 and GL1100 have the same Intake manifold O-rings

GL1100 (1983) and GL1200 (1984) have the same front master cylinder.

Another for the list. Some time ago Honda dropped the 1100 head gasket and now recommend fitting the 1200 item.
The clutch operating system for the 1100 can be adapted to fit the 1000, resulting in a smoother and lighter clutch operation. It also make it easier to change the cable.

The final drive of the cb900c is the same, as with the gl500.

c900c = cb1000 = 1980-1983 gl1100 final drive
the rear wheel is also swapable.

I'll keep my eyes on parts compatability with the cb900c. After all, if i can't have a goldwing, i'll at least take some parts.

GL1000 [1979] , GL1100 Standard [1980 - 1983] and GL1200
Standard [1984] use the same turn signal.

If you open th holes up on the 1200 swinging arm the 188-9 rear wheel gearbox fits the later 1200's. Not the 84 stadarn though as the wheel/gearbox is different.
