Sidestand Problem

Was trying to figure out why the sidestand doesn't want to support the bike in a safe position. Took quite a while just to get the pivot bolt out and found the hole in the mounting plate was very worn and almost twice the size it should be. Had to put it all back together and give myself time to think about this one. The plate don't look like it is removable to repair or replace. At least not without disassembling the entire swing arm. Any ideas out there?

The side stand mount is on a removable frame member. You can see the bolts just in front of the engine and under the front peg.
So you can replace the removable part of the frame. Sometimes, this frame member gets rusty inside and needs replacement anyway.
You might be able to weld up the hole and re-drill it.
You might be able to drill it a bit bigger and round and install some sort of bushing.
Just some thoughts.

I'd probably take the removable frame piece off and weld a couple of washers to it. Good chance to clean and repaint it.

This is the CX500/650 section. There is no removable frame section on the CX models. Which model and year do you have?

Thanks Q. I was reading the reply from Cookie and Tom and wandering if there really was a removable section that I missed. Sure didn't see one while I was laying on the ground looking up at the mount.

Oops, got to notice which one I'm reading. Then I'd see if I could weld washers to it without burning it down.

Hope I did not offend... I was going from the avatar.
Oh yes, if drilling a bigger circle will work for you, you can also drill and tap the kickstand for a bigger bolt...
Just a thought.

Not offended at all on this end. Just confused until I finished reading the replies. Looks like the best option so far is to weld up the hole and re drill the hole. I'll have to wait for my welder friend to get back on his feet from an accident he had. I have a lot to learn about this bike and hope to have it on the road before nice weather hits as I intend to be riding it to work and back. Scored a pair of sportster mufflers today and three boxes full of parts all for free. Trying to sift through to see what I can use before giving the rest to my son.

You need at least one outrageous offer each week.
Naa, every so often I think about a big ride and that makes my day better! Just thought I should share the dream...

Are you sure you have the right bolt?
It should be a shoulder bolt (item 7 below)and the holes in the frame lug and the end of the stand should both accomodate the wide part of the bolt. If someone hs replaced it with a plain bolt the hole would look too large.

Pretty sure it is the right bolt. The hole in the metal plate is no longer round and is worn out. It looks like the best bet is to close the hole with a welder and drill a new one. Not sure if there is enough room to just drill a seperate hole. I'll have to do some measuring.
