Had my 1200 engine vapour blasted when I rebuilt it a few years back. Still in good shape.

Re-installed the brake line from the rear master cyl. to the front caliper. On my 1200. Also removed the exhaust system complete for some welding. Welded and replaced it. A days work without help. But me and the radio called it a good day.

I've been thinking about getting another Wing, but this one is different. After my stroke, I better stay away from two wheels. Someone did a trike conversion on this Interstate using a chevy differential. The present owner bought it on auction and got it back on the road.
I am concerned about its unsprung weight on the rear and how it moght affect handling. Other than that, I could see a woody pickup box on it in the future. If it were mounted on the original bike frame it would lower the unsprung weight by taking the original rear trunk off the axel frame and add to sprung weight.
I might lose the hand shift, but keep it for the next guy if it's needed.
It's also five hour drive away, so it's a bit of an investment just to look at it.
What does everyone think? I like the idea of keeping a GL1100 on the road, but hey, the newer 1500 trikes have reverse.

And the newest acquisition, 1979 Yamaha XS 650F to be a sidecar tug. crossy.gif

While $2000 is a lot for a 1983 wing, not a bad price for a trike. But you are correct about reverse being a big deal. Would not take a bunch of work to get the starter to engage in gear and run backwards if you are an electric wizard.

2K is not a bad price fro a decent 83 and adding the trike kit even makes it more attractive. The lack of a reverse gear only means you have to be more attentive as to where you park. Only use the reverse on my 1800 when I'm too lazy to select my parking spot. Even then, a slight push from a 'friend' gets the job done. Be careful when looking at the 1500 models. Not all of them had reverse and there is a lot more to work on.

As an official short guy I love the reverse on the 1800. The 1200 seat is substantially lower than the 1000 so it is not bad

Not really something I did on the wing but I picked up a new set of tires for my trailer. I do use the trailer to bring home most of my purchases. The tires were at least 10 years old and showing some wear. Got a great deal of about half price or less from Northern Tool. Should be set now for several years.

A vapour blaster is a great tool. Had my 1200 engine parts/pieces and some of the bike frame parts vapour blasted during C-19. Does a great job. Once the parts are vapour blasted need to use a protectant on them to keep crud and such off the engine. Used CERAKOTE MC5100 as the protectant. Great product, but once applied nothing sticks to it, not even the venerable duct tape.
