Just came across this thread; very cool fabrication work! Nice solution to the sprocket position; not may people can do that.

Re: '72 CB350 cafe "resto-mod"
Been away for a while (life stuff, and other projects). Apologize for the long delay. Did start working on the project again last December.
Some updates
You might remember the counter shaft had to be extended by 34mm. There was also a hydraulic clutch in the works.

Slave on a machined piece that was contoured to the cover.

The puzzle pieces

After welding, in place after some modifications to clear the stator cover. Although not shown; the holes for the slave are drilled & tapped.

Fab'd an exhaust (if there's interest; I can post details)

Sorry again for the long delay. I'll post more updates later this week.

Looks good. Have you checked the chain run from sprocket to sprocket? Any clearance issues with the frame?

Re: '72 CB350 cafe "resto-mod"
Thanks guys.
Here's a shot of the offset.

License plate mount was a bit of challenge. Initial thought was to go with a vertical mount off the swingarm.

Ended up with this. Did check with the State Police and the MDOT requirements "... must be visible from the rear.
Frame upside down, turn signal brackets, plate bracket to the right.

More frame details
Budget is what it is... decided to forgo the powder coat, and paint the frame with Rustoleum Epoxy Appliance paint.
My makeshift rotisserie

Had purchased some aftermarket headlight bracket clamps, but they were too big and hit the tank. Didn't want to dimple the tank or reduce the radius, so I came up with this.
Got a damage lower triple tree from a GSX-R750, cut off the ends, flapper wheeled them down, and then bead blasted before painting.
Left is just after the flapper wheel, right after bead blasting

Re: '72 CB350 cafe "resto-mod"
Machined a couple of collars, which got welded to the 1 3/8" tubing leaving the engine.Neil wrote:Nicely done again... definite interest in seeing your work on the exhaust build.

1 3/8" to 1 1/2", then down to the resonator.

Took a piece of 2 1/2" round exhaust tubing left over from the Miata project, pressed it into an oval, welded in two 5 1/2" long resonator tubes.

Here's a shot underneath. Not the best photo, but had to make a slip joint on the left pipe.

Re: '72 CB350 cafe "resto-mod"
Electrical isn't my favorite part. Got most it worked out. Still waiting on an LED flasher to finish under the seat.
Started by IDing the wiring from the GSX-R controls.

Right side finished (had to replace the spark plug wires from the coils also)

Left side had quite a few more wires. Cleared the tank, but its close, so decided to blanket it with an old inner tube.

"Dash", GPS antenna on lower right, green LED is neutral indicator, switch on headlight is for the low beam, high beams are triggered through the hi/low switch or pass switch. Voltmeter fits into the GSX-R ignition switch hole with a machined piece.

Low beam w/parking light-running light (not sure what they call it, wired them together)

High beams

Once I finish the back end; I'll post a video of the strobe. Wired through the "park" position of the ignition switch. It's toggled by the 4-way switch on the left control.
Hope to assemble the engine within the next two weeks.
Painted, really to go back together.

That headlight is so "war of the worlds" looking it's awesome. Nice work on the exhaust, hope you get a chance to post a sound bite or two of the bike when it's running.

Re: '72 CB350 cafe "resto-mod"
Thanks Neil. Headlight is super bright, only uses 3watts on low, 9 on high
I'll be sure to post a video when finished.

Ray has been served well with points. Not my cup of tea as I always seem to leave them open and they corrode but Ray may keep the inside.

It's a budget thing. I'm even going to paint it... haven't touched a gun in decadesrobin1731 wrote:Wait, all this work and you are using what looks like original coil and points?

The engine will be mostly stock. The oil filter will be changed (filter element vs centrifugal). Carbs will be rejeted, match port intake and foam air filters.
