I couldn't help myself.
Grabbed the carbs for the 79 and put them on.
Had to see what it will eventually look like:
The Kodak moment:

..aaaand I'd really like to get this engine back where it belongs
so I can have a go at it.....fastlike.-)
So maybe I'll use these carbs for now, while getting the real ones ready.
Yeah I know: the 79 carbs aren't really suited for this engine
....but
from the back.
It really is an impressive piece of machinery

This Q, is for you:

Thanks Q and RR
Guess I have too much spare time right now...that's all.
RR; sorry about the delayed delivery,
but your 3000$ check bounced
:-P
Octane
...ohhh no!
I just realized that there no way I can put such
a fresh looking engine into such a tired looking frame.
Guess I have to do the frame as well.....................?

...er..maybe you'll have to .-)multi-me wrote:...Can't wait to see the frame transformation...
I've decided to just touch it up for now, as I want to get this thing moving,
before the season ends.
So back in with the engine...fix like 3 dusins of other tingies...and off I go!
The frame really should be stripped down completely and send out for powder-coating, and that will have to be a winter project.

..took a look at the radiator.Everything's well and fine inside.
No build-up of dirt, rust or lime or whatever..good,
but rust is beginning to take hold on the outside

..gotta stop that!
Took the whole thing apart:
..cleaned
..de-rust treated
..cleaned
..de-greased

everything recieved a shower of primer

even the 'water hose wire guards'

and I decided to go for a top coat
same as on the engine.
Why ?....donno...maybe because I haven't see seen it on any other GLs.
Heck...I gotta come up with at least one original styling idea
after taking so much inspiration from other bikes in the gallery .-)

and I do think it looks pretty cool

I did paint the cooling 'fins' black though. Something to do with
black helps dispersing the heat better.
For the 'tank' and sidecovers I'll go for a
very-dark-grey-with-a-shade-of-green,
(Black just was too..I-dont-know....elegant)
and a very yellow stripe, so things don't get too boring.
I've taken inspiration from some photos of seventies racing-bikes.
Doing a bit of experimenting with pin-striping:

That's not too bad

maybe a 'racing' 'go-faster' stripe ?

...man! I gotta get that engine back in there !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
