There is a special Akita in a Shelter north of here that I would love to take on but it would mean the end of my travel for a year or so. He is a BIG boy (100 plus pounds) with some behavior issues. He is not someone I would trust here alone with my Wife. Made that mistake once already with Chief. It cost him his life. My current big male turns 11 next Wednesday. Time is catching up with him and he is slowing down considerably.

We both agreed that a special needs dog would be out of the question. Also we loved having large dogs for many years. We decided on a medium size (50 lb) because we are both aging. After just a couple hours with us she is sleeping right here at my feet. Seems very comfortable with us so far.

(FYI... Just in case anyone would like to tag along) I feel like I have not had enough bike time this year. So If the weather holds next Friday when we break up at Morehead I plan to head down to Tenn. and find a room in the Sweetwater area. That is about a 4 and half hour run South. Saturday Morning I would like to run the Cherohala Skyway before starting my run back to Norfolk. The other possibility is to run the Skyway Friday afternoon and find a room in the Robbinsville area or someplace a bit further East. Plan has some flex but something like that.

Really hate to say this but I'm not gonna make it. Having a few issues getting our new pup acclimated and my wife is not ready to go it alone. Really wanted to make this one because of the anniversary and I missed last year due to family health problems. Hope everyone has a great time. Ride safe.

I'm bumming a little. Really wanted to make this one since I missed last year. Today my wife dropped the bomb and said she is not sure about keeping the dog. Our two cats have lived with our dogs for their whole lives but they are refusing to accept this one. Both cats have been hiding for most of the past week and show few signs of coming out if the dog is anywhere to be seen. We did anticipate some intolerance bot not this severe. I'm still hopeful that things will lighten up real soon.
