I really like watching this coming together. The cosmetic and details of restoration work have always appealed to me than the wrenching. Here's a simple fix for the odometer boot if it's road weary.

Thanks for the tip. I saw that one too. Fortunately mine is in great shape. I finally got my dial decals back from my printer and they look awesome. Better than I expected. Tomorrow I should have them all back together and will post some picks and a description as well as the reassembly.

Agree. Beautiful detail and much finer than the originals. How will they adhere? Adhesive backing or......?

They are nothing more than a high performance sign vinyl with a heat impregnated color ink. It has a 5-7 outdoor life. That is more than ample for this application, my bike is garaged and even though it will be ridden often, I'm not concerned with them fading.

Okay, so here goes the reassembly. This took me 8 hours to complete today, I didn't earn any points with the wife in doing so.

1. Paint the dial cutout edges black for contrast against the white.
2. Apply the decals to the dials. Then carefully cut out the openings around the MPH and Temp openings.
3. Paint the needles black with red center and tip.
4. Screw dials faces back on the gauges. Carefully align the needles and tap gently to seat them back on.
5. Assemble then clamp down just enough to form a tight seal with all the rubber gaskets make sure everything is lined up.
6. I split the chrome trim ring on my spare gauges so I decided to use them. I use 3M DP100 inside the grove of the ring to re-secure the gauges. You have to work fast this stuff dries in 5-6 minutes and is fully cured in 20 min. I tape everything off around the gauge case as to not get the epoxy on them. It make it easy to clean off when dry. I use a hose clamp to pull it tight and hold it while it cures.
7. Clean excess epoxy carefully with exacto knife with a #18 blade.
8. Re-tape around gauges and polish trim ring with Mothers Polish.
9. Reassemble all the bits and pieces back together.
10. I couldn't decide on black back or chrome, I went with the chrome for now. I may use the blacks after I paint the bike and see what ones look best.

I don't think I want to do this again, man this was labor intensive and delicate work. Hope you all enjoy and try this yourself.

Here are the gauges all back together. I didn't show the reassembly as it is pretty straight forward and most of you have probably already had a gauge off a time or two.

I'll probably do something with the plastic trim pieces like paint them in the same SEM flat and Gloss used for the gauges. They don't look up to par compared to the gauges.
