Wow, just wow.

Sounds like you need another spare motor for your collection, though...

Well Now that Old Fogey is back on the Airplane headed across the pond I guess it is time to finish this up. I kicked him out at the curb of the Richmond Airport this morning   I think right now he should be awaiting his take off from JFK for his next leg to Amsterdam.

Anyway on to the bike.

Right before I turned the bike over to him 3 weeks ago I did an oil change and noticed quite a bit of Clutch friction material in the drained oil. The next day the clutch started acting grabby intermittently. I did not have time to tear it down prior to his arrival so he took it that way.

John Accumulated over 2500 miles on his rides with Cyborg and the entire time the clutch was acting up. He had trouble shifting and finding neutral and with lurching during take off. So Monday morning he and I pulled the engine. Yes I know you can work on the clutch with the engine in the frame but I am so qualified on engine pulls it is just easier for me, plus I really wanted to be able to do a very thorough flush of the engine and that meant having it hanging from the chain fall and pouring gas through it while tipping it different directions.

So we got it out and removed the clutch cover and then the pressure plate. I would never ever have expected what we found. Inside the pressure plate instead of 6 springs we found 5     No kidding.

We pulled out the plates and there were the correct number but there were several aftermarket friction plates mixed in with the stock plates. We swapped out the entire stackup from another engine and reassembled everything after a good flush. Reinstalled the engine and I rode it for a couple of blocks Monday Afternoon then Yesterday we hit the road for a good ride.

We got about 200 miles on it yesterday and John said it felt like a different bike. How that thing stayed together as long as it did and worked is absolutely beyond me. You would think that on the first couple of engagements that the pressure plate would bust into many pieces. It had all 6 bolts but only 5 springs. I am beginning to think "Previous Owners" should all be taken out and shot.

Someday you too will be a "Previous Owner" but, you will probably be dead by the time you let go of a runner so the shooting will have little effect. lolol

And yes I agree most previous owners should be shot.

You mean you need all six bolts and springs? I imagine you take the engine out to put gas in by now.

Not my bikes PO, Inspector did me good. Now the PO before him may be a different story, but it is the poor PO maintenance that let's us get these bikes for a song.
