Thanks for the update Whisker. When I talked to Reb last night he thought they would have plenty of help with the four of them. I was kind of toying with the idea of flying up but it seems well in hand.
Wishing them all the best of luck.

the pic above is coming out. much earlier yesterday.
somebody got more pics but I think they're with RR & he's on the road South. hopefully home in a couple of hours.
well, the latest update is that it's not quite right. seems there's some orange watery stuff flowing from the left head gasket & exhaust. and it smells funny, not like water... sweeter. hm, that's not right.
yeah, it's coolant. back to the shop...

yeah, we swapped entire engines besides a few incidental sensors & switches, etc. then we got into the swingarm which we had to split for re-installation of the engine, and then there was the rear wheel discussion...
I have some fairly seriuous nicks/chunks on one side of the rear wheel but it still holds air... and a metal screw is imbedded in the center track of the tire I've been riding on for 6-8 months. when he saw it and I explained, I thought RR was gonna have kitttens. we all went back & forth about a new tire with mount & balance. we opted to leave it as is for now but I'm gettin' a new tire once I'm home.
it still needs some little tricks done. we're pretty sure I twisted the throttle cables, not reversed them but twisted them in the routing before I reinstalled them. they're a little tough to pull and there's no return by spring. but a nice cruise control, though.
then there's the head swap. Frank says about 4 hours.
rear blake bleeding... uh, for future reference, you're NOT supposed to press the brake lever while the caliper is off the rotor. D'OH!! I was just admiring the new switch spring Frank had installed & had to play with it.
I think the guys were getting tired of my inane antics by late afternoon.
I hope we can get back over to the shop soon. as much as I really do enjoy hanging out with Frank & family (his wife is soooo understanding and he has great kids) my wife's gonna take a hunk outta my backside.
...jm.

I'm beginning to think I'll change both head gaskets and the water pump on mine before any kind of road trip.
This is not even the first time I've done a head gasket change because of a high chance of fault, or water pump either.
On my Subaru the 2.5s have a truly sad head gasket story so I have fitted the latest revision. Water pumps are also hard to get to and I did the job at 90,000 miles, they tend to last 120,000.
After that belts, tensioners, and seals I have not touched the Subaru engine except for plugs, wires, and oil changes for 40,000 miles.
Perhaps this might also be good trip practice for Wings.

I think I'd have the same sort of cow that RR had if I'd seen that screw!!! Frankly the engine problems might be a blessing in disguise if it kept the Hamster from cracking up on the freeway in AZ or someplace! Some folks have more guts than I do. Last summer I had a front tire blow-out on my Vulcan at 90mph, and I don't think I've completely recovered psychologically yet.
