The quotes are not coming through as they should; don't know why.

Small world -- and the restaurant in Northbend where the Lt in Northern Exposure got cheery Pie and a darn goog cup of coffee. Some times it was necessary to stop at both places.
In June of 73 Sadie and I moved to Roslyn. We lived there about a year.

You can always do like me and rid yourself of all other vehicles and only have a motorcycle. I haven't had a cage since 2003.
I do ride in them sometimes but not often. I once went 8 months without riding in a cage at all.

Re: Where have all the real riders gone?
I started riding a motor morini (bronco 50) small yea but I was 13 and I rode that sucker all over town the cop knew my dad and left me alone, I picked up a 305 dream yea a Honda dream rode that for a year. My shop teacher had a dead 305 super hawk and wanted the dream for his wife he said he would trade and help me fix the super hawk I was 16 and it was a lot cooler bike so it was a trade. A lot of work and it was a runner. rode the life out of that bike.
Then I rode a 67 650 triumph, sold the super hawk and started a 30 year obsession with 66-70 British bikes. I still have several. Along the way I have had gs850, r75/5,k100, k75s k75rt, k1200rs, concours 1000, 79 750 triumph,76 870 triumph café. I rode to Gilroy ca. from CT 3 times to go to the garlic festival. And to see my brother. We have gone up thru Canada and down thru Vermont. Germany with my cousin. I must have 100k on 2 wheels and loved every mile, going out for a ride meant 400 miles just for fun.
Then the first accident, state throwing down pea size gravel in a sweeping corner, yea you can imagine the results. then 3 car accidents in 3-4 years (not my fault) so riding has been curtailed to looking at the bikes. But now the Goldwing just may get done this year and I may put some miles back on again. So yea there are some real riders out there, some have just taken a break.

The edits and quotes rules are different in these special forums, i.e. this is 'mike Nixon's' forum so he has those buttons but no one else.
And .... I still ride a bit ....

Re: Where have all the real riders gone?
Tentatively planning a trip to Alaska on cheapo bikes with my Dad next summer...
Step 1: Buy cheapo roadmuncher
Step 2: Ride to AK
Step 3: Sell bike in AK (or have it sold before you get there)
Step 4: Take a plane home.
I'll have to get my passport and go through my work's debriefing and all that shiz, but I think it'd be a blast.

Re: Where have all the real riders gone?
When I bought my BMW R90 new in '74, I rode the heck out of it.
Did 14,000 a year for the first three years. Once I got married and bought
a house, the mileage started slowing down a bit. Eventually hit 172,000 with
that Beemer before I sorta retired it. (gotta get around to restoring it one day)
But I still have the bug. While I'm restoring my Wing, I've been riding my
'77 Honda Trail 90.
I can hear you now..."You can't actually GO anywhere on that bike!"
Well, let me tell you. There have been quite a few Sunday mornings
when I've taken that little 90 cc bike out and put on 120 miles or more.
I live in northern NJ. That little bike has taken me up into lower NY state
and into eastern Pennsylvania several times.
....and it will do it again! I love that little thing!!! Riding that bike 120
miles is like riding the Wing 250 or 300.

Had a Navy Senior Chief attend one of my MSF classes on a Minitrail-90 that had a 125 motor grafted into it.
All he needed was a Fez and he could have joined the Shiners in their next parade date. That thing could scoot!

Re: Where have all the real riders gone?
I'll bet it could move alright!
Somewhere around here is a guy who has a Honda CT-70 minitrail with a
Lifan 140 cc engine on it. I haven't met him yet, but my brother has. He
says that the thing is scary fast!
I'd be terrified to ride that thing at highway speeds on those little ten inch
wheels that the CT-70s had.

Re: Where have all the real riders gone?
I rode a similar bike, a cb100, for quite a while as daily transport. The little Hondas are eminently capable machines! BTW both of your bikes looks fastidiously kept up.

Re: Where have all the real riders gone?
I had a buddy down in Florida, big guy at about 270 who rode the Iron Butt Rally on an older Katana 600. He made it look like a 90.
