Thanks GearHead.

I'm debating the color again ... it'll be a while until I can afford it so, flip-flop will occur.

I sure like that original R-104C-U Candy Muse Red.

Oh well, we'll see.

anim-cheers1 That's a good color it looks really good when its new. My 83 was royal burgandy brown when it was clean almost looked maroon but after week or so just looked brown good luck in your paint sceem I know you can do it just be patient with the paint and your paint is only as good as your prep. Make sure to use good quality primer because that's what your paint has to stick to :crosso

As many of you already know, about a month ago Winnie's left bag had a little run in with CMYoch's knee. Totally destroyed the bag but I think Craig has recovered. :P I've been riding around bagless and have been on the hunt for a new set.

Found an ad for 1100 & 1200 parts and pieces on Craigslist yesterday (along with a treasure trove [er, hoarder's pile] of torn down 1100s) and called Bill The Dude. He had my choice of blue, gray, red and I bought the black ones. Hard to tell if they had good finish but they're complete with no cracks or gouges. Best part was just $50 took 'em home. They're just a bit grungy.

Image

The left one cleaned up pretty good. Needs the rubbing compound and wax treatment but otherwise pretty nice. I'll have to see if GoofOff will remove the residue from the INTERSTATE badge. We could not find the tail light pieces so I took a pair of the gray that I'll do rattlecan black. I kinda like the rear lights and this time I'd like to leave them and wire them to the brake circuit.

As usual ... more to come.

I finished up the new bags today and added exhaust extensions. The bags took some effort to clean up and repair the rubber seals and I transferred my old locksets. I think She's looking mighty fine.

Image

When removing the old bags and old exhaust shields I found a layer of soot that took me at least an hour to clean off. What a mess. This was the old way.

Image

For the new way, I decided to go with extending the exhaust pipe to the back of the bags. That presents the problem of the angle of the Harley mufflers and the taper at the end. So I picked up 2 pieces of stock 2-1/4" pipe from AutoZone, slashed the ends and cut slots in the the fronts. To attach them, a 3/16" self-tapping bolt and a strong clamp from Rural King were used.

She sounds different with those extensions ... I kinda like it.

Here's the way it used to sound:

Here's she sits with the new sound and soot free mounting.

Notice that the LED brake lights in the bags come on before the stock set.

That's another reason I like the LED's. They are either on or off. They don't have a filament that has to heat up before it makes any light. Just that little extra time for people behind you to see them. look at a lot of cars with the third brake light. Most are LED. They will also light before the other brake lights.

Oh, the bike looks and sounds good too. ;)

Is it a band clamp

Yep ... this one time at band clamp ...

I drilled and tapped a 3/16 hole on the bottom and about 1" from the end of the H-D muffler. Then I ran a bolt thru a good quality screw-type clamp (from Rural King), thru the extension, and into the hole in the muffler. I was going to put another brace near the end of the extension, attached to the bag frame, but they seem real solid so we'll see if they hang on for a while.

I'll get out an take some closeup pics so that paragraph makes some sense. ;)
