Ok, I've decided to go this route. I've already received all the pvc stuff in mail last week. The air cleaner came yesterday and the carb should be here be Friday. Since all my 45's are the same, how much should I cut off each end of the 2 and the 5 way they fit to? Also, I believe I read, 1/2" off both the floor flange and the top of the 5 way. Is this correct?dkl wrote:Yes two of the 45s are shorter, it is just different brands, if you hit the real Hardware stores and look in their bins you will find some that are shorter,,,,,,,,If not cut off both ends, but be sure and leave enuff for a good glue fit......everybody on these sites would like for you to believe it is Rocket Science, it is e-z...Just has to be airtight, solid, and as even in length from carb as possible. Don't over think it. On my next one I will use a 1 1/4 x 1 bushing socket to socket glue fitting to slip inside the rubber boot, it will fit tighter in the boots.

Re: GL1100 Cheap E-Z Single Carb Conversion
Study picture, different brands of fittings may be longer or shorter than the ones I used, so if I said how much to cut it could be incorrect. This picture should give a good idea on the fittings that need to be trimmed. Dry fit fittings,,,, and measure twice, and cut once.........Yes I cut top of tee and bottom of flange,,,,how much depends on how high you want the carb to set.

At the risk of being a PITA....how are you securing the end of the throttle cable to the throttle arm?

Went to a auto parts store in their small engine section, used this with a screw on both ends to hold it in place.

Got back Sunday night from a 400 mile round trip to Jefferson, Texas and surrounding area. Both Bikes ran great, the Black single carb got almost 45mpg loaded with camping gear.

Good Job........Check manifold at every connection for leaks, then adjust carb. I put a support under center of manifold just to prevent any sagging from weight of carb, and weight of storage box I place on top of air filter. Hope it works for you as well as mine.

77 wing started on this 9/30 +- and has it fired up on 10/30! Don't ya love it! If we all keep sharing experiences with this project that"will never fly" someone will come up with something to add/subtract from this project and we'll all drive over Pandoras' Box.

It is cold in Louisiana,,,,,to cold to ride, adding another solo seat--From a Road Star--I like it. Moved the Suzuki Boulevard to the Yellow 82.

That RoadStar seat looks real good along with the bags, it all fits together very well.
