To wrap things up, here's the final(?) cable routing for the throttle and front brake. I tried a 14" brake line from 4into1.com, but it was slightly too short, so I re-used the original by flipping it over. The 15deg bend typically at the reservoir is now at the lower triple tree and bolted in at an angle, which directs the cable behind the bucket to compensate for the too long brake line. The straight eyelet works well at the reservoir. I'll replace the front brake lines at some point in the future.
As described earlier, the throttle cables are routed outside the frame and over the airbox to compensate for their extra length. I'm still using the pushing cable, but will try it without next time I'm mucking around with cables.

And here's the view from the cockpit. Standard length clutch cable routes in front of the instruments. Hit 20k on the clock during three days of warm Feb weather last week.

"final" full bike shot with rear shocks in place. Leaving the seat as is for now. May pick up some matching rear signals once Spring swap meets start.

Not a bad plan at all as they seem much more athletic without the fairing to me. Enjoy you new lighter steed.

Will do. I mentioned this earlier in the thread, but the bike feels completely different with the lower forward bars and the missing front/high weight of the fairing.

Nice work. Looks like you have this all in hand. Similar issues with my 82 when I bought it. Previous owner tossed the bucket and turn signals to mount a vetter. Took me a while to find and original bucket, ears and turn signals. Look forward to seeing the next set of pics.

Looking good.
We have some older CB750 bars (maybe 6" rise or so) on our '83 Naked "Blue Phoenix" and can vouch for the more aggressive stance relative to the pulled back stock tourers. I get on our 82 Cabernet and feel almost like I'm laying back on a cruiser; the '83 is a more upright, even leaned-forward-a-bit posture. Night and day in lots of ways. Funny. I like them both, but they're really different.

I too put some late seventies 750F bars on my GL1100. But then went with late model CB1100 bars. Even with the Vetter the lower bars makes the bike much better handling and a better riding position.

swapped the Jardine exhaust for gl1000 headers and HD cans. Unfortunately had to remove the center stand for clearance.
At this point, the only further mods I'm considering are some VT### rear signals to match the front and flattening the seat a little. I have a spare seat with cover tear, so that will be the donor.
Other than those, I consider her "done".
