Loved my 78 850!

Have a recent friend who is a Brit bike lover and he says that he had an early 80's Gs850 (I can't recall the year) think it was an 81 and it was a great bike in his opinion. He is now working on a GS 850 on which to mount a side car. He has about a dozen nice british bikes but always looks back on his 850 as one of his favourites. Looking forward to the ride.

My 850 was on a big hack back when I was a tiny one…put a 78 Wing on the car which pulled it way better.

I always wanted the GS1100, but a young kid couldn’t afford the insurance. Seems in my older age I may look into one.

Yep it is for a smaller car that his wife drives. Right now she has a Ural and it is apparently quite underpowered for highway speeds.
The GS1100 would be tempting but it would just get me in trouble. The GS850 is for putting around backroads, taking my time and enjoying the scenery same as my Gl1000.

My neighbor has a Ural. Pretty well stretched out at 50 mph unless downhill.

That's the info at this end too!! Kind of dangerous in traffic.

I will say the 850 sounded faster than it was! Great for backroad cruising though.
