Re: My efi project
Nice looking 36-1, that should do the trick to feed the micro-squirt some good crank position info.

Re: My efi project
Thanks Casper. I certainly hope so
I got a few things to do before I can check it. Socrace has the idea I might try spinning it with a dremel close to the vr off the engine to do the programming to keep from running down the battery. Im a little bit brain dead right now though getting the firmware . Whats Your plan A fuel only setup off the coil & how is Your Wife doing ?? JB

Re: My efi project
Make sure your VR sensor's pickup is about the size of the teeth, i had one that was too large and it only picked up half the teeth. If you need a good part number from autozone let me know I can dig it up.
And I'd recommend using the msextra firmware.

Re: My efi project
Mine is a fuel only, batch fire set-up. I will be using the C5 as the ignition system, it has a pulsed RPM digital output that is a direct input into the SDS controller. I will be using the same RPM signal to drive my new SpeedHut Digital Tach/GPS speedo. The wife is fine, thanks for asking.

Re: My efi project
ICB. Ill take you up on that part number in case I need it. No hurry though. I think I got the firmware loaded. The computer makes a buzzing sound when turned on< I hope thats what it is supposed to do> and it detects ms2 extra on Tunerstudio. No fuel in the tank yet Coolant gauge reads 160 with no water in it. I Got to roll it out of here for now , roll it into the other part of the shop and put the 36-1 wheel on and time the wheel in relation to TDC. Once hear a pop ill put the radiator on .....O2 sensor later..Socrace. Can I get by without dremmeling the 36-1 for ms2? Thanks for helping me. Just a flick of the test setup for now...jb

Crank the engine with fuel pump disconnected, Tunerstudio should read around 400 rpm, maybe 600 rpm on a good day with battery charger connected. If it reads zero rpm, then...

It's way above my paygrade, but I am happy to see these all coming to life.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Almost made a biggy. Almost indexed it to tooth 8. Now onto tooth 9 and 8 gaps. Ill file in a small keyway or pin it to the belt pully..JB

Re: My efi project
The offset isn't that critical. In the early versions (and maybe the B&G firmware) there was a specified offset depending on how many cylinders you have. As long as you know how many degrees (by counting the teeth) tooth #1 is BTDC, you can enter that info into tunerstudio under "Trigger Wheel Settings", I have mine set at 0. So basically at TDC, tooth 1 is lined up with the sensor.

Ok. Thanks ICB. I learn something new everyday. I have about 20 links in my favorites for Microsquirt . Maybe some are old. One of these days Illl find a printer that works and make a little book. Im slowly catching on I believe . I cant BS myself. I knew it would be a challenge especially in the computer programming department. I appreciate the help.......jb

Re: My efi project
Well a lot of the documentation hasnt been updated or is a hodge podge of stuff so it just takes some digging. I guess you can attribute that to it being an open source system.
Good progress though, cant wait to see it running

Re: My efi project
OK
. I have the 36 wheel lined up with vr1 sensor on the front of the engine. I unhooked it from the microsquirt computer to check things. Ohms is .359 at 68F factory calls for .297-.363 so that's in the range. With vr1 still unconnected and spinning the engine with the spark plugs out I get 1.562vac or real close. With the plugs in I get around 1.240vac spinning it without the battery charger hooked up . Im wondering if that will be a strong enough signal??. VR2 on the rear of the right cam is going on the backshelf<disconnected> at this time I guess. Im thinking of trimming the width of vr1 to.125 to match the wheel. presently its about .200 wide or side to side and epoxy over the part I file down. That might make a stronger signal??????? The teeth match real well the other way ......JB

Re: My efi project
can you check with it connected and your laptop hooked up? Click on the "Diagnostics & High Speed Loggers"(or just Diagnostics if you haven't updated Tunerstudio) tab...Select
Tooth Logger" in the drop down box...if its working you'll see immediately what kind of signal you're getting from it. Just click start before you crank, crank for a few seconds and you should see it on the screen.
You want something that looks like this, if it looks funny try switching the wires around from the sensor.
