$600!!!
I promised the PO that if I could get a FL title, I'd mail another check for $100. But after discussing it with the local DVM and the state's "Bureau of Field Operations" unit, looks like that's a no-go.
The fuel gauge face is black. Did they make both colors? Or is it just because it looks green in the pic?

Great buy even without a title. So what's your game-plan for a title? Some states are not too bad as far as getting a title. You may want to do a search on this site for that. Could even buy another frame as a last resort. Yes they made them in green but I believe that was 76 and after. Shade of green even changed for 77 model, I think. Used to know but kind of forgot.

Already bought a FL-titled frame from Roncar (thanks again Ron), just need to pick it up.
I'm not in a real rush, as I'll need to strip the bike down completely before I need the frame.
It's funny, I was looking at that owner's card again. If Honda didn't have the 6-month warranty clause, I could just wheel up to my local Honda dealer and ask for things to be replaced under warranty! Imagine their faces.

Its a shame that you have to go the new frame route. I assume that you will then have to title it with a mileage discrepancy. Documenting all of this info here may be very helpful in the future to explain what happened to a prospective purchaser.

Actually, no.
To transfer a Florida Title, the seller must complete the Transfer of Title by Seller section of the current title, including the purchaser’s name, selling price, odometer reading and the signature and printed name of the seller at the time of sale. (Motor vehicles are exempt from all odometer disclosures statements or odometer declarations if they are 10 calendar years old or older as of January 1 of the current year.)
ALL vehicles that I have registered in Florida, that were over 10yo at the time, say EXEMPT in the odometer section. Even if I provided the mileage.
But if there is ANYTHING wrong with the title, forget it!

Same with all my bikes (and even a 1996 auto I recently purchased for my son).
If I wanted to get a title for this frame, it involves the court system. Which I tend to stay away from, as much as possible.

Texas is pretty sticky too, but they do allow for a "bonded title" which means that after a search on the state site for stolen vehicles if nothing turns up, you can go to an insurance bonding company and get a policy for around a $100 that insures that if there are no contests to your ownership for two years (I think its two) you will get a real, clear title. In the interim, you can sell the bike, but the new owner will be subject to the two year clause. Something like the title insurance you get on property in most states.

Starting the tear-down on this bike.
Good news today, I purchased a 1975 FL license plate and should be allowed to use it on the bike. The picture is an example of a 1972, I don't have a pic of the one I purchased. Total cost was only $9.50
Will need to send the actual plate and other documents to the state capital to have it "authenticated".
1975 is the last year that they will allow this!
Just thought it would be cool instead of the standard antique plates assigned.

Vintage plates like that are very cool.

I'm all for stripping, hacking, bobbing, chopping and personalizing... but if I found one with 5,500 miles on it... I'd be obliged to return it to as-new condition. I'd end up divorced, though.
Fantastic find!!!!

I agree.
But, let me ask you guy's opinion on the frame issue.
My plans for this bike is to make it a rider. I want to keep it with the stock look, with probably the current engine guards and maybe the rear rack as those are what the original owner had mounted, I guessing when new. I look forward to rebuilding a set of "virgin" carbs with Randakk's kit. I've never opened a set that didn't have stripped threads, JB weld, etc! The body panels, seat, and most parts will remain untouched as they are in great condition.
I've never wanted a "museum piece" kind of a bike but if you guys feel I shouldn't change out the frame with another, I'd definitely consider keeping it untitled with the current everything. Maybe I should start a poll on this? If it was my only bike, the situation would be different.
I remember a while ago, a member here needed a set of the original black cable clips for his beautiful bike. The only ones he could get were now available in white. I had no hesitation to remove them from one of mine and send them to him. I'm more of a "couple of zip-ties will work" kind of guy. But with this bike ???????
As for the personalizing of bikes, one of my '79's came to me with a single carb conversion. I haven't started on it yet, but my plans are to make it my "wild child".

Heh, any advice I provide is on a purely "take it or leave it no harm no foul" basis...
That being said, it'd be a sin to have a bike that you couldn't legally ride.
I mean... you can restore it any which way you like but if you want to operate it legally, you have to have a title?
Heck, you could swap the frame (easier said than done, i know) and use the bike while researching and possibly acquiring a correct title for the original frame?
It all depends on time, money and available space.

No matter what you do, you still have [another?] one of the finest machines ever built for riding.

She's a beaut, Clark (err, Wog) and really deserves to be out there on the road.
Great find!
And I love that plate.
