I am so freaking bored!! I'm saving up the $900 bucks to get the bike back from the repair shop.. :( I have about $60 bucks so far!
I went back to the beginning of my OWN thread (181 posts so far!).. as well as I have been reading all 'NEW THREADS' on this forum..
god I love coming to this web site...
and I'm sorry I said that Randakk's instructions with his kit weren't perfect. THEY WERE GREAT!!!

if anyone want to send me some of that EXTRA money they have spilling out of their draws and all over the parking lot at walmart, please send it via pay pal to my email address which is slydogjeff77 at gmail dot com... lol.

I have pictures of my bike as my wallpaper on my desktop computer.. at home.. and at work..

....and on my cell phone..

I've made amazon wish lists and ebay watch lists of the seats I want, the rear lights I want, the digital speedo / tach / multi gauge, the new headlights..

obsessed much?! they say denial is the first sign of an addict and admittance is the first sign of recovery..
I think this shows EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE!! I can EASILY recognize that i'm an addict.. and show no sign of recovery! lol.

I hope if your not smiling at the bike, you appreciate my humor!? I'll be here all week...

And I want to thank Sunnbob, Roady, Robin1731, roncar, brokentoe, hott, jdept, Dangeruss, rat, cyborg and everyone else who has posted and helped me out!! I wish I could meet up and buy you all a round, but I'll never be allowed to leave the top right corner of the country. I believe someone called her "The Chief financial officer and minister of war" (wife) wouldn't allow such a thing!!

Update.... I GOT THE BIKE BACK FROM THE SHOP TODAY!!! it's been a really long wait and I am happy as a pig in poop.
did a little 15 mile trip home and i managed some really good timing too because it started to rain about 5 mins after i got home.

So the shop guy really is a nice guy. the only complaint i have is the length of time they took to get the bike on the lift for only 5 hours of labor.. but anyway.
timing belts
carb sync
rebuild petcock
fixed my neutral light (neutral light switch was not lined up right in the front engine cover)
inspection

she purrrrrs. :) and she's got a HUGE KICK IN THE BUTT WHEN YOU TWIST THAT GRIP!! I LOVE IT!!

OK soo once i got home i wanted to put my new bars on..
I couldn't get the throttle to stay put no matter how tight i tightened the screws,
that and the rake is much shorter!!
being that short put some extra bend in the clutch cable and the throttle cables.. so the clutch was tighter and the throttle twist didn't return any more.. i got depressed and took it apart again only to snap the throttle twist tube..
no big deal, i just ordered another for 11 bucks, but it wasn't until after i broke it that i noticed the little NUB in the throttle pod that sits in a HOLE on the original bars to keep the throttle pod from moving around!!!

anyway, not to upset.. the new bars are the euro style bars on HOTT's bike of the year and now that i tried them on, i'm not 100% in love.
they are not very wide, i have to lean forward a bit more than i thought, and now i have long cables making this stiff and messy..
sigh..
maybe risers?
I think i'll try them out for a while and see.. but I have a feeling i'm going to change for something else.. i want straighter bars than stock but i think i want to stay a little more up right...
anyway.. good night naked goldwingers... going to bed.. yawn.

After you re-route your throttle cables, and the throttle seems sticky, loosen up the in-line adjustment nut (under the shelter) a bit and see if that does not loosen up your throttle. Oftentimes when the throttle cable is re-routed, and extra bend is added, or an existing bend is increased, causing the cable to tighten up inside the casing.

I hate that nut!!! I practically have to take the carbs out to even get at it..
I remember when i was re-installing the carbs, it's easier to attach the throttle cables before you slide the carbs all the way in.

but you think that it's possible to get the throttle cables to slide better rather than buying shorter cables?

I still need to drill that hole in the new bars while i wait for the new throttle twist tube to arrive.

Also, I haven't looked yet to see how much cables cost.
I need to find the stock cable lengths first and then I figure how much a whole set (2 throttle and 1 clutch) that are 1 or 2 inches shorter would cost.

Side note: I hung up the mechanic hat for the rest of the day yesterday and all day today for my Carpenters belt..
spent the day framing, putting up dry wall, installing a prehung door and 1st coat of spackle. I'm converting our den ingto a 4th bedroom for my older son so he doesn't have to share a room with his younger brother.

New throttle twist tube arrived last night so I got working again.
New Bars are on.
I did what you guys said and just re-routed the throttle and clutch cables so they don't bind..
It's perfect!!
Here's a quick shot. I took it to work today and I was giddy as a school girl..

So on with some questions for the swammies of Goldwings!!

1) You can see the master break fluid box thing on the bars is now totally kah kah crooked. And I've seen everyone with round ones... I'm sure someone could show me the right solution and parts? got a link?

2) I moved the choke off of the handle bars too and mounted it to the front left bolt of the false tank. (saw that on another thread and I loved it) re-routed the cable so it works very smoothly But now the choke slides in on it's own too fast (you'll see in the video I'm about to post).. how do you adjust that?!

3) the bike wobbles at speed more now than before but only when you take one hand off the bars (i went to put my face shield down and freaked out for a split second before putting my hand back on the bars) Why does it do that?

I'll take a better video later when the sun comes out.

Scratch question number 2. I found the parts manual and looked closely. I found (Under the rubber weather protector) the screw/nut thing just before the choke HANDLE that lets you tighten and losen the tension.

I took some more pictures too

BAD news... I took the bike to work today and parked it in front of the building. one of my friends came in and told me i had a fuel leak.

Quick inspection found that there is fuel dripping (1 drip every 2 mins) from the fuel accelerator pump on the carbs and possibly from the front right carb fuel tub as well. The top of the engine block was all wet with fuel.

perhaps my carb rebuild was not as good as I thought!!

Right now, I'm thinking just turn off the petcock while parked. I don't think it leaks at all while running.
This winter, I'll take the carbs out and....

can you guys fill in the blanks of what I should do / look for? Maybe another carb rebuild kit for at least one of the carbs?

I'll take close up pics of the leak and post them later.

*edit* keep in mind that it was 33 degrees this morning and it has warmed up to 54 right now when I checked. Does or could temp have anything to do with it?

You should always turn off the petcock when parked. It may have just been a full tank and some got by a float valve. Those sometimes will seal themselves with use. It's pretty common to have one stick a little even on the best rack. Cross your fingers and hope for a magic fix.

That's what the wisdom of the group says and I've heard Randakk quoted on that subject. Rob gave me a real good explanation on that recently, maybe he'll be along shortly to confirm. I will say my bike sure starts a lot better if I leave it on....but ...

Yes you should always turn the fuel petcock off. On any bike that has the off position. Not just on a Wing. Some bikes have a vacuum operated fuel petcock. Most of those don't have an off position. I have bieks in my shop where those failed too. A crankcase full of gas is never a good thing.

On a Wing, even though it has a fuel pump, if the tank is over half full it can still feed the carbs. And if you have a float valve failure then the gas has to go someplace. Sometimes it will leak out on top of the engine. But I've had bikes come in that had gas in the crankcase too.

Always turn the fuel off. I do it if the bike will set longer then 10 minutes or so. About the only time I don't shut it off is when getting gas. Or petrol, depending on where you are from. ;)
