Over the last several days, I've read your entire log. Great info and very inspiring! I'm amazed by your creativity and quality of work. I hope to accomplish 1/10th of what you've done one day. Thank you!!

G'day to All,
and thanks for the encouraging remarks :-D

Last break I decided to strip the 76 down ready for the set of piston rings on their way.

The Left head 2&4 is damaged, the PO threw her to the ground whilst moving, he replaced the camshaft holder with a second hand one, when I torque it up to specs the camshaft does not turn freely, and as we all know the head and camshaft holder are machined as a pair and must be kept together.

So I decided to steal the heads off the spare 78 engine sitting in the redback corner, I was amazed at how nice it was so I stripped the engine down and split the box.

Clean as a whistle, new bearings all around, +25 pistons, new primary drive chain, infact everything looked great except for the outside which looks like it spent a few years at the bottom of the sea.

So the decision was to rebuild this one and scrap the original 76 engine.

I bead blasted the casings,

Then using some WD-40, an old plane and some 800 wet n dry I honed the mating surfaces.

You will be running the '76 cams though? I don't know if the heads changed, but the '76 cams and carbs would give better performance, although less touring smoothness.

The 76 is the tug for the chair, I had a 78 crank, cams, carbs and ignition advance in there as to lower the torque range.

Washed the casing bolts, just need to blast them for assembly, but it is too early in the day to start my compressor and dust collector. :P

The Naked 90 is slowly coming along, wired up the ignition controller. I am now considering remaking some of the brackets as the left shelter side is about 4mm further forward than the left and 2mm closer to the frame, it is unnoticeable but I know its not right and now is the time to change it. :-?

The 75 has stagnated as she needs a few new parts, only small things but the budget is tight. :|

I took the 88 in to the Department of Transport the other day to get the required permits, she went through easily, just have to get the rear wheel machined out to fit a car tyre rim on, stock MC tyre on at the moment which will not last long. :|

I have written the 78 off as now she has no engine, so its down to the dump for her.

My 98 Valky is running fine, but now the tyres are getting tired, another $700. I am seriously thinking of fitting a sidecar to her as well, but I haven't seen any style that I think suits a Valky. :-?

Happy n Safe riding to All, Peter.

G'day to Everyone! :-D

well after many hours scrubbing, bead blasting, washing, drying, masking and making wooden plugs for the holes I have finally painted her with 3 coats of engine enamel. Let it thoroughly dry, pull out the bungs and remove all the masking tape then start putting the internals in, still waiting for a set of +25 piston rings to turn up in the mail which should be any day now.

Taking a cycle off to get some things done around the house so I hope to have more to show over the next few days.

Happy n Safe Riding to All, Peter.

G'day to Everyone! :-D :-D :-D

well my priorities were changed for me, jobs around the house , then one corner sheared off one of my teeth and a crown came off, thus the dentist absorbed more than my allotted spending money.

The 75 had a weeping inspection window in the front brake master cylinder, so I acquired a few from e-bay and changed them both out.

Back to the 76 outfit.

well I painted the engine block (as you know) and started to prepare for assembly, then I thought! how much blasting media got into the oil galley? so I removed the plugs and there was heaps, it would have ruined the engine in seconds.

So I washed it all out with kerosene, which in turn ruined the new paint :( I landed on a snake so back to square one.
but luckily only one engine half.

Blank out, mask off, then 3 coats of silver engine enamel.

Just waiting for the new piston rings to arrive so I can start assembling her again.

its good to be back on the build again, also the piston rings arrived today dancr

I had one mishap, I was working on a long time typewriter project early this morning, slipped and stuck a 4mm blade screwdriver right into the tip of my left nostril finger :crying

Hope I get more done tomorrow.
