Yeah we get the same thing out of Corvairs, flat engine thing I suppose.

I had to remove the rh camshaft on my triked '75 GL1000 back in 2012.
During its reinstallation, I used a tiny dab of Loctite 515 on either side of the front oil seal too.
Here's an interesting tidbit about..
Cold engine startup oil smoke from left side muffler.
I recall a thread from around 5 or more years ago where a fellow said he would momentarily lean his GL1000 over towards its Right side- after shutting off the operationally 'hot' engine‐ to reduce the probability of left side muffler oil smoke phenomenon .
Makes sense when you note the direction of running engine crankshaft revolution before parking the bike on its left side kick stand.

As I said, mine doesn't lean but it still smokes from time to time.
