Test rode the project for the first time. If the video made it..?.. My buddy got a kick out of the ride.
Could not test reverse.. the shift lever hits the header... if I position the lever higher..it hits the reverse gear cable.. so I'll have to break out the gas wrench and do some.. tweat'n. But reverse did work on the jack stands.
Engine seem'd very happy with the Dana 44 rear.. no strain..pull'd away nicely. I ran it thru all four forward gears.. around the block.. Like, my introduction to sidecars last summer... 3 wheelers have their own .. rules. The exhaust sound'd great... since the project moved.. the ice cream box head's to the body shop. :)

Yesterday drop'd the ice cream box with the body shop. I decided to go with standard 4 inch tail lights..since the original rectangle lights.. from a RV.. are no longer available. Add'd directional arrows to the amber turn signal units. All lights are dual 1157 bulbs.
Also drop'd all the body panels off including the front fender with the painter. Everything will be in traditional black and white PD colors. If I lived in Chicago I would entertain the city blue and white.
I requested everything be done by the end of the 3rd week in May. That will give me time to get the project over to the " sign guy " to have the " New Sherriff " decals added to the top of the box and side covers. I hope to have it on the floor for a local m/c show in June.

Over the weekend I returned to the swap meet near Chicago. For whatever reasons there where many Gold Wings ..(8-10) older units .. on the grounds. The meet was the usual Harley love fest but there where a lot of Japanese machines and Brit vendors.
Last week I visited the fellow working on my fiberglass box. Much progress has been made. He said 95% of the cracks have been repaired and that the " latch hook " I designed for the lid works well (it was missing). He also said I can't apply the decals on the painted surface for at least 90 days.
My other friend said he'd have the " tins " painted and .. IF .. everything goes as plan'd I hope to have it ready for the m/c show in June.

Got a email from my painter.. the Cx bits have been.. " CHiP's ".... was a Chicago PD unit.. blue and white.. but.. I prefer the traditional black and white. These need wet sand'n and then clear coat'd. Painter said I can apply the logo.. the ice cream box is almost done.. again black and white.. but the body shop said 90 days before I can add the decals.
so looks like a pretty good chance it'll be on the display floor for the June show at the Mn fairgrounds. :)

" Ice Cream " box is almost done.... lights installed.. the turn signal arrows are a black " reflective " material as a result they " pop " went flash photo'd.
.. IF.. Big IF.. everything goes as plan'd...(insert laugh track here) the bike should be on the display floor for this weekends vintage m/cycle at the fairgrounds over in St. Paul. The lid for the box (black) is still in final buff'n and " should " be ready Pm tomorrow.

Well.. the project made it to the show floor. I gave the painted bits to the painter and fiberglass dude weeks ago with the idea I wouldn't be putting the bike together the day before the show. " No problem " I'm told.
Problem.. but of course. Grrrrrr......day before the show... gas tank is on... not hook'd up.. the box is bolted to the frame.. the lid is held on with two hinges... (there's four) and needs underside insulation and better alignment. I can't apply the "SHERRIFF " decals for 30 days... paint has to dry. Lights not wired. But.. it made the dance and I got many compliments.
The bike was a rolling (barely) pile of rust after sitting for over 20 years when I got it May 2016. I tell people that without the help of many talented craftsman and artisans in their fields this would still be a barely rolling pile.
So..the total investment... with the purchase price, paint work, fiberglass repairs, running donor bike... just under $5000.oo. :)

Looks great!!

I don't know why but my mind keeps envisioning a black stripe going over the rear fender wells.

At the vintage m/c show the local chapter of the VJMC presents awards in various classes. Since my Cx is a unfinished project I didn't expect any " hardware ". But was very humbled when the trike was awarded with one of the big wrenches.
The rig is now at a buddies.. shortly we'll secure the lid, wire the box running lights and add a flasher to the " blues ". Have not decide a siren yet.
The rig is insured and licensed ....:)
