Wednesday, March 9th. On go the carbs! These carbs are from the first Wing I bought, an '82. I had rebuilt them a few years ago, and polished up the intakes and caps. They sat on a shelf, just waiting for this opportunity. Bolt on and go! Or so I thought...

Sunday, March 20th. A little RTV, anyone?

I like to set the valves at the same time as doing the belts. After setting the crank, I back off the rockers so there's no chance of inference.

Up until this point, I had been working on this in my stepson's rented garage. I found out that day that I needed to move the bike ASAP. Fortunately, the weather had finally broken, and the engine was back together. It didn't take me long to throw the front and rear suspension together enough to make it a roller.

Monday, March 28th. First light! She's finally home, where she belongs. My work truck, in the background, conveniently has a lift gate that works very nicely to move a motorcycle, lol! Just don't tell my boss...

Sunday, April 17th. Getting her ready for her first fire! I wasn't sure if I'd have wiring issues that might postpone the event, but she ran!

April 23rd. Not sure why, but the entire wiring harness was repaired at some point, and while it looks like some of it was done fairly well, there were also several 'scotchlocs' in the mix, and the melted fuse box was the kicker. Time for a transplant!

June 6th. Remember the 'bolt on and go' comment about the carbs? I wish! The first of three times I removed, cleaned, and replaced the carbs chasing an over-rich idle. I essentially spent the next two and a half months on this issue (among other stuff).

June 17th. Coming together nicely! New tires, rebuilt forks, fuel tank, and replacement wiring harness installed. At this point I'd completed a couple of cooling system flushes, as well as an engine oil flush. The carbs were still kicking my butt.

Between the weather, work, and other commitments (and those dang carbs), the next couple of months didn't show much progress. Rebuilt calipers and front and rear master cylinders finally got installed, but I quickly discovered that the rear brake disk was warped enough to rub on the caliper mounting bracket. I think I installed/removed the rear tire/wheel at least 6 times during this build!

Just reading through your posts I was smiling a little since I can really identify with those trials and tribulations you were struggling with too. Went through most of the same issues on my last build. That said you prevailed and the bike looks great and hopefully runs well for you.

Yeah, as soon as I posted it, I thought of the list of 'nice to do' stuff: cut down the windshield, paint/wrap the exhaust, rebuild and change in the original carbs...

But, it's a runner, and those little things can happen between rides, lol!
