I'm wondering if putting beads around the bolt holes and a ring around the housing would work? As drawn in blue...
Why not!
Probably will help.
I'm sure it won't hurt.

...though I have yet to find that "Plug, Oil Tube" on the engine.
I don't think you will. I think that may be a difference in models or something. When I did the pump on my 1100 I ran into the same thing. I'm thinking you use either 12/49 or 41/50, but not both.

well,i was the first to pull it apart and i didn't see any aluminum crush washers, mind you i wasn't looking for them either, all i remember is a flange on the bolts.all the o rings are deffinately fine.
i'll bet that there are NONE there or if they are there they must be some crushed for me not to notice them.and that would be a real pisser being that that is why i replaced the first waterpump thinking it was toast and all it needed was new or "some" washers.lol,oh well, the joys of used bikes, you never know what some people do...or don't do.

I learned two things.

1) How to fix a pump

2) How to show someone how to fix a pump

I now have a weep hole leak out of my 76. I have yet to touch this transmission cover, I did put synthetic oil in her. It leaked after a day or so, looked like it leaked out maybe a 1/4 quart or so. Rode it home parked it and put a drip pan under it. Nothing, one drop was all. Rode it some more and it seemed to mysteriously stop. Parked it and rode the Black one and this morning the Yellow one has a oil puddle under it :-?
WTF over? I put in a new filter and added 3.7 US quarts when I did the change. I put an oil pan under it this morning to see if it well continue leaking. Just to weird. I have had oil leaks but I have never had a come and go oil leak.
I am not in a hurry, your just slow!

That yellow 76 in my avitar, I miss daily. Should have kept her.

Hi, my recently bought GL1100 had the pump replaced not long ago by the previous owner, and I too have a leak in the same place, from the weep hole. About 2-3 drops per day when it is stood in the garage. The oil seems clean and uncontaminated, the coolant also appears to be uncontaminated.

I have two questions on this. Firstly, does it matter?

Secondly, what is the purpose of the weep-hole (if not to leak oil!)?

I ask these simply because I need to know if it is ok to run my bike without undertaking a repair for a while as I am just soooo busy all the time.

The pump has water on one side.. /.. oil on the other

If the pump/parts of it/a gasket, breaks down
oil would flow to the water'side' or water would flow to the 'oil'side

were it not for the weep-hole.

oil leak through weep hole

#24

Post by Dan S. »

I had oil leak overnight through the weep hole. Not just a few drops, but about a quart!! My 77 never leaked before, so I'm not sure how to proceed. I have read all the postings on the subject, and understand the possibilities. I think I'll fill the oil up and ride it and see if it's still doing it. If it is still leaking I'll have to go at it with the wrenches!! It seems strange to have happened out of nowhere. It was the second ride after a cold winter in Minnesota. The first ride was about 52 miles...No leak... The second ride was just to fill it up with gas about 1 mile..The next morning I had a huge puddle of oil...Rats!!!Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!! Dan S. So. I'm weepy too,... have been since I got the bike last year... it only weeps when warm after running - it didn't leak all winter.

My question is: So what? 1-2 drops of oil overnight doesn't seem like a big deal - so long as it's just oil and not water. At least I know the pump is getting oil, right?

Mine has virtually stopped, gone to about 1 drop per day, and there is still oil in there!

Dan S. a quart is too much. It needs checking out not riding. Lots of threads on this and water pump stuff which should give you the info you need.

Good luck
