79 CX500?

for those of you that have M.B.S. (multiple bike syndrome) and have the "silver wing" models.
as our sponsors also have supplies for those bikes and they are popular with the "wing" crowd.

you might try some sea foam and just see if that unsticks the floats.

I do think there is a cx forum.... but can they really be as nice as the guys and gals on NGW? :-D

Yea I checked bikebandit. I need to look at it on my computer it doesn't show up well on my phone. So should I try pluggin the overflow tubes and fill the bowls with seafoam first or just pull them apart?

I would just try filling them with seafoam and let them sit.... then drain and toss into gas tank. It is always worth a shot

It looks like the bowls attach to the bottom of the carbs with just a couple crews. I'll just pull the carbs and get my hands a little dirty.

Get ahold of Larry Cargill in Sacramento. He wrote a book on these carbs. I doubt anyone knows more than him on the matter.
Check out this link http://choppercharles.com/cs/forums/73676/ShowPost.aspx
Its a good example of what he does.

That's a great looking CX for $200! It makes me miss my '80 Deluxe. I'm thinking I need to find one of the CX Customs for the wife. Its lower seat height should make her comfortable enough to learn to ride on, but it's not something she'll outgrow in a season or two.

And on the plus side, when she's not riding it I'll get to ride a CX again!

Anyway, congrats on the new bike!

Agreed, not only does he know his stuff about the carbs, he does one heck of a restoration, as in my G-Loria 82 Silverwing Interstate. He has done three more rebuilt bikes since I got mine in May. His book is a bargain at about $25. Coupled with Randakk, there should be every answer you could want.

I recently sold my 82 Custom, somewhat melancholy about that still.

I love the CX series!

The mechanical seal is a bit of a pain, but a forum member developed a method to change it in-bike. About an hour tops, and i've done it to both of mine. :)

Wasd thinking of buying when from one of the smaller Islands around here. Sitting in his barn, says he ran it last year. Find the manual or a good site for the 500. Apparently there's a critical alignment when replacing the carbs after cleaning. There are carb kits available. Will post the site in next post.
