WOW, just finished reading through this entire thread that I totally missed during my absense. Very nice work, well written documentation and with humor to boot. Now I'm part of the watchers of this thread and can't wait to see the final product out on the road.

Been following you build and it follows or match's much of my own build of my 1985, GL1200 Aspy into a trike for the wife just a few years ago. However I installed a "used" 1998 Motortrike body and had to add a few cross-piece's to frame so I could have mounting locations for body and other items. Other items include: extra gas tank (2 gal), electric fuel pump, reciever for trail hitch/rake. Also installed the "poorboy alternator" kit, modified the stock exhaust to 4-1 (cut off the H-box,used VW muffler).

I used a 1988 Ford Ranger rear (changed gears to 3:00), narrowed about 17" (off-center like yours), made mounting brackets, etc, 1984 Mustang mag wheels (15 x 7), 215/70R/15 tires. Rebuilt the drum brakes (easiest), cut/welded driveshaft to Ford pinion flange Made a new swingarm from 1"x3" box steel and used the stock driveline housing like you.

Cleaned up the trike body and glassed in the lower light area of trunk lid/opening and removed all other snaps/lights/chrome stuff. Filled and then painted "stock light blue" for 1985 Aspy. Added some LED stop/turn signals from Tractor supply.This took about 50 hours total but overall about 3 months time. Runs in a straight line, handles curves pretty well and gets nearly 40 mpg and I really gotta re-build the carbs!!! I'll have to figger out how to post pics...yeah, yeah I know.

Hope to get pics posted, but I think I have to put up a couple responses on here. Rules, ya know.

As for the coupler from GL1200 to Ford Ranger: used the GL1200 driveshaft and cut the "rear" u-joint off. Welded the u-joint from "rear" of Ranger driveshaft as it has a u-joint with one end having a flat surface with 4 bolt holes to attach to Ford pinion which has a flat surface and 4 threaded bolt holes. Cut both like you done, pinned and then welded. Just made sure we had enough "travel" in "front u-joint" of GL1200. We wanted the wheelbase (axle to axle) to be nearly the same as the stock GL1200 and it's very, very close.

If I could not find a "trike body" we were gonna get some new Ford Mustang rear quarter panels, rear trunk lid, deck, valance (from Classic One) and weld/cut/trim to fit the sub frame we would make. It would have taken more time but I did find a body...but we're still looking to build another bike (GL1500) in this manner for the guy that helped a whole lot.

Yes, it will mount. I mounted on on my '76. It bolts right up with no modifications.
It will not allow you to use fork brace, however.
