Pics at last!

#1

Post by Old Fogey »

At long last I've got the camera and new PC working together.

Been a long nightmare! Don't ever use Kodak Software, it's the most unintuitive stuff I've use for a very long time and unfortunately I lost some of the pics while sorting it out.

Anyway, here's the start.

Just realised that this should have been in the new Restorations forum, if someone would like to move it, please.

Is that a factory shot of a new wing being assembled? How many hours did it take you to do the gauges? I will have to do something there when I get around to my red bike.

Excellent job especially the gage set. Did you do the gages, or did you farm them out?

You're doing some great work there.

I have a Kodak digital and I just install the driver. Then when I plug the camera into the PC, the camera shows up as another drive.

Nice workshop too. You guys are lucky to have an enclosed garage or workshop.

Did you copy the guage faces on a scanner, invert the colors, then print them out on white paper? However you did the guages, they turned out great.

Well Cookie
You see, I have this problem.

When I was an apprentice engineer I had a journeyman, Bobby, of the old school, a real pernickety old git.
When one of the older apprentices was asked by him if he had done something right , the app replied ' near enough!'

He was asked again 'is it right?' and gave the same answer!

Again he was asked. This time he replied 'yes it's right!'

'OK' says Bobby, 'that's near enough!@'

Kind of sticks with you, that kind of training.

As for the gauges

the faces are Bob Howell's appliques and following his instructions they really take very little time. I reckon start to finish including cleaning all the crud out of them, greasing the mechanism, spraying the white ( the appliques are black on clear)( I use a white acrylic primer which dries in seconds) and reassembling them took maybe two hours apiece. Once the adhesive holding the parts together cured it probably ttok another hour to mask up the faces, rub down the cowl and spray the black.
I had jumped the gun and removed the chrome rings, using the method that WF put a link to some time ago , prizing them off before I got Bob's instructions.

That's why they are now painted :!:

Has anyone spotted the (non)deliberate mistake in the gauge pic? Very noticeable once you see it!

Ya mean the tenth's of a mile wheel in the odometer being the same color as the whole mile wheels?

Nope and I'm probably not likely to. Perhaps WF will, he's younger and smarter than I.

You're too good!

I'd forgotten I had to do this, so add another three hours to the speedo time.

Yeah, the white wheel had discoloured real bad, almost orange! So I cleaned it!

Cleaned it so well it didn't have any numbers on it! That plastic doesn't just discolour on the top, it goes right into it.
Tried repainting it white, NoNoNo! Horrible!

I had an old speedo with the same prob so, what the hell, fit a black one. At least it's different

Let me tell you, that is not something you would ever want to do by choice

I never would have noticed that. It just looks like the tenths are delineated.

Thats looks like some very painstaking work. If the whole turns out like those bits, it will be outstanding!
