Carbs Again... Again

"These old carburetors don't like sitting..."
We all know it , we all say it.
Here I go again.

I went thru these carburetors a couple of years ago, they worked great, then the bike got parked.
The owner recently woke the bike back up, but butterflies sticking, clogged pilots, now... the bike back in my shop.

I got them disassembled and all of the parts cleaned,
spent the past hour going through my stash of carburetor stuff and found all of the O rings I need.
now to start putting them back together again.

Only issue so far was self induced  .
I left the caps and float bowls soaking in Simple Green for too long and turned them damn near black.
I ran them thru my vapor blaster to renew their finish, and they turned out pretty nice.
Learning from my error,
I cleaned the plenum and carb bodies in the utrasonic cleaner so they didn't get discolored too.

Two things Mother Honda did not do, expect them to be around in 50 years and design then to sit unused. Other than that...

I parked the wing in my avatar 3 or 4 years ago. Got it out 3 weeks ago. Once fuel got to the carbs it fired right up and idled and ran great. That is using regular pump gas with ethanol. They just need stored properly. anim-cheers1

The bike sat for a year and a half after having the carbs "ran dry" by shutting off the petcock and running the engine until it died.
That never drains all of the gas out of the bowls.
It had been running pump gas and seafoam.

Good thing is that this rack is off of a 76. In my experience, the 1100's are even worse.

Too much simple green (I knew better). I was just looking to pre-treat these parts before scrubbing,
but forgot about them and they soaked for a day.

Vapor hone and some fine glass bead did a nice job:

Did the Simple Green dip negatively affect the very smooth inner bore of the vacuum piston caps?

No, The simple green didn't affect the smoothbore at all.
I'm pretty cautious when it comes to things like that.

I made sure that I didn't vapor blast the inside of the caps and then I just scrubbed them clean with carb cleaner.
I did blast the insides of the float bowls, you can see the difference.

All back together, I'm going to dial them in on my test engine before I go through the work of installing them back on bike.
