Guadalupe... A Texas Flood

#1

Post by HOTT »

Well I'm sure y'all have seen what is going on down here in Texas. Much of the area affected we rode at NGW 2016. The Guadalupe river winds, splits, and reconnects all through the region. Flooding is not uncommon here and quite manageable. Retreats and campgrounds line the river and is a busy get away in the summer months. Last week tropical storm Barry decided
drop a ton of rain there. https://www.clickorlando.com/weather/20 ... -disaster/ The storm sparked rain cells that caused the water to rise 30' over a very short time.
I'll jump ahead and say rescue efforts are herculean. One girl was found alive 20 miles downstream! The reality however is this there is a lot of sadness here. The lives lost are not just local. It seems everyone knows someone...

The Hill Country is a favorite ride and camp for me. It's our version of wine country. I have several customers that have retired there (all OK evac'd early and returned). It will be a while before my travels take be back there.

God bless Texas

I have been on the go doing Family stuff up in NY and only getting home a couple of hours ago. Over the weekend I was catching bits and pieces of the horror that has happened. Just the thought of sending a child to a camp that should be a joyous occasion and it turns into a nightmare.
I can not imagine the sadness that could encompass an entire community from a catastrophe of this magnitude

The rate at which the rivers rose has to be the scariest thing I have ever seen!

So sad for all those lost lives, especially all the youngsters.
