Do be careful with Rustoleum. Since it dries slow, dust can find its way and also to quick on a top coat can cause a run. I would use it too however as the slower drying yields a better surface finish. Even rolling it or brushing it can yield a brush stroke free surface with good equipment.

Frame is finally wire wheeled, primed, and painted with Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy (which is actually an enamel). A few (dozen) more items to de-rust and paint, then some assembly can begin.

Was the engine also painted in the Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy? My 84 waiting in the wings for its turn needs the engine dropped to replace the stator, so a good time to pretty up the 21k engine.

Any pictures of your progress? Looks like you've been moving along!

The engine is painted with Duplicolor Engine Paint in and aluminum that very closely matches the original. POR15 is a great engine paint, but any of their metallics leave serious brush strokes (their engine paints are all brush-on). I painted a custom GL1000 with POR15 MG Maroon and it came out great! I've really not made the progress that I'd like. Need to get busy getting the rest of the rust off of misc brackets, etc. and prime, paint them. They will all be primed with Duplicolor (or Rustoleum) etching primer (both lacquer-based) and then painted with Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy (which is actually an enamel). The wiring is all cleaned up, and the carbs were cleaned and rebuilt a couple years ago. I've been a bit stalled out due to health issues, but things are coming around. Still need to order a a new seat cover (I have an excellent seat with just a small tear in the cover). Keeping an eye out for an affordable decal set. I won't paint the plastics until it has been on the road and I'm satisfied with it. They come off easy, and I'll probably paint them with RS Bike Paints water-based and clear coat over.

I've used the same aluminum paint on some aluminum intake manifolds, just to pretty them up. Still have a partial can somewhere on the back shelf. I bet that maroon engine turned out pretty slick. I wish I was better at colors - I can look at something and think "wow, looks great" but never come up with the right combination on my own.
