Ernest, the 1800 fans I've seen photos of (2001-07 years) don't have any type of shroud. Is that the style you used? I haven't been able to find any pics of the newer units.

Auxiliary fuse block and power distribution block installed with a fabricated bracket. It occupies the space of the removed reg/rectifier and stereo buffer. Just needs some paint...

I 'think' I have the alternator brackets pretty well sorted, but I'm having trouble sourcing a v-belt locally. Ideally, I would like to get three different lengths to test, then choose the one that allows the most adjustment. If I order from Amazon, I'll have to go thru the whole return process... At least their not $50 a piece, lol...

I cut an old belt that was too long, used it the measure from pulley to pulley, and taped it together. Took that to Auto zone to match it up. I priced several stores, they had the best prices

Unfortunately I don't have any old belts. I used the wife's sewing tape measure, which is cloth and very flexible. The problem I've run into is most places only stock a small assortment of automotive v-belts. There's tons of FHP (fractional horsepower) belts, but those are for low horsepower applications. I know that just spinning an alternator doesn't really require a high horsepower belt, but do it right, do it once...

Been using the one on my 78 for at 5 years. And I changed it then just because. The one on my 84 is about a year old. No problems with the Auto Zone belts. And I have the Auto Zone number, and they are everywhere. And easy to change if need be. Thats my thinking

That looks pretty good. I've been contemplating doing a poorboy on my 86. There doesn't seem to be any problem with the stock setup but I've always heard it is a weak point.

The final mock-up of the alternator brackets...
Ended up with a 33 1/2 inch belt. I measured with a tape at 33 inches, but there was no way I could get it installed. Ordered the belts online, almost $20 cheaper than the local parts store, and same wait time.
You can see the washers I used to bump out the crank pulley and the clearance to the timing cover.
I'm about 2/3rd the way through the wiring.
As an aside, if anyone references the wiring diagram previously posted, the relay is labeled incorrectly. #85 is hot from ignition, 86 ground, 87 is hot from alternator, and 30 is hot lead to distribution block/ fuse block...

Radiator and fan in final mock-up. There's more than 1/4th inch clearance between the crank pulley and radiator, probably 5/8th inch or more between the fan housing and belt at its closest. Falling into place!

The fan coverage on the radiator. Pretty much equal square inches to original fan, just not in the same place. This fan is rated at higher cfm, so we'll see!

The wiring is done enough for testing (except for the alternator charging) and everything seems to be working properly. Next step is to take it all apart, clean up the wire routing a bit, paint brackets, etc., then put it all back together.
