Re: thinning the herd
I got the carb rack reassembled yesterday and was just starting to clean out the fuel lines and pump when I got called away for rescue stuff. They are calling 2 days of rain starting tomorrow so I have to do yard work and maybe get a couple State Safety Inspections done. The GL1000 I am working on is 2 years expired and the 1200 and 1800 are both due in May but I will only have a few days before I get handicapped so I need to get them done this Month.

Re: thinning the herd
I had my left knee replaced in November. Was riding in January, guess the doc forgot to tell me about the no riding. Had my right knee done March 5 and will be out on a bike this weekend weather permitting. Physical Therapy cleared me today. The funny thing is the surgeon asked me why I chose his practice, I said of the choices I had he was the only one that said he had a motorcycle as a hobby!

Re: thinning the herd
I questioned him a couple of times about the 4 month thing. I was not happy abut it. The reason he stated was if the bike started to tip at a stop and I attempted to halt it I could easily damage the healing process or even cause the implant to shift before the bone was fully healed. That could create a real mess.
I just want to get this thing done. Between dog walks and mowing and helping out the neighbors etc etc. the counter in the phone says I did 7 plus miles of walking today. It hurts during the day but that pain is secondary to the swelling and discomfort when trying to sleep. Every time I roll over at night the knee wakes me up.

Re: thinning the herd
That is where I am too. I just had a MRI on left knee, going for the goo shot on Monday. Right Knee was greenlite for a new one last year. But the goo shot is still working strong. Doc said I can get shots every 6 months. I got the right done 18 months ago and no other's needed, yet. So I am hoping for the same on Lefty...

Re: thinning the herd
Yep, sad this getting old thing but the alternative really sucks! I remember in my 30's I went through a phase where it seemed like I had a surgery to fix something every other year. I had 5 Surgeries in the 90's. Now 30 years later I am in my 60's and it is setting up to repeat itself. I have an appointment with a hand surgeon for a trigger thumb and I am trying to do conventional treatment for a heel spur problem on my good leg.
Cold rain here today. Worked some rescue stuff and had to take my new guy in for his first meet with my Vet. Hopefully tomorrow I can get some shop time

Re: thinning the herd
Installing carbs today with a dead thumb on the right hand was no fun. They are in. The fuel system has been flushed and she fired up pretty much straight away. I did have some flooding in the plenum from number 3 but it stopped after a few minutes. I have run them dry a couple times and back up and have probably a hour or more running time but it has not returned. I was not real happy with the idle drop on number 3 also. My IR Gun was in the house for checking freezers so I need to check the header temps as well as do a synch. Then I can decide if that rack stays in or not. This was Randakks original rack from his show bike. Years back Pete overhauled them and did some of his "Proprietary" mods. Randall never liked the way they ran so he replaced them on "Marylin" then and gave them to me. I also have never felt they were quite right. Nothing I can put a finger on but I have had them on 2 different bikes and both ran rich and were not as smooth as they should be. I should probably pull them and verify all the jet sizes. I have been inside them 3 times but I don't think I have done that yet.

Re: thinning the herd
The new MetalCloak steering parts for the Jeep came in today. I had to run to Va Beach for some blood work this morning so I stopped in and visited the guys at Open Air Jeeps there. His supplier had the lift I wanted on the shelf and he quoted a me a reasonable price for the lift and install so she gets dropped off next Wednesday for a couple days. I had planned to do the install myself but between the knee and the useless thumb it just makes sense to pay to get it done. They will do the steering upgrade and the 2 inch lift and take it for the alignment. He is going to install spacers under the stock rims so I have some time before I have to to decide on the 35 inch tires. Stock are 32 so she might look a bit funny for a bit but it will be okay.

Re: thinning the herd
Got back to work on the dressed 1000 today. She fired right up and then the gas started pooling in the plenum from number 3 again. For a little bit I was "less than" happy, as a result I drained all the gas out of the tank and the rack thinking I would just wheel the bike into the corner and let hr sit for a few months. Then about the time I got the fuel tank empty my mood improved and I decided to pull the rack again. Could not find anything terrible but did notice the spring on the float valve plunger for number 3 was a bit anemic so I replaced that. Put everything back in, refilled the tank with gas and she seems to be fine. I did a synch and idle drop and shut down/ restart numerous times with a nice dry plenum. She had not been out of the shop I think in a couple years so I went over all the normal stuff and wheeled her out into the sunshine. She seemed happy so we went for a run up and down the thruway and she was good enough to take for a Safety Inspection. Last one on her expired in 23. So that was fine and is now caught up to date. I need to get her out for a good run but hopefully I can get her listed for sale in a few days.
After I got back with the 1000 I jumped on the 1800 and ran her down for her Inspection and then the 1200. So all 3 bikes got rode and Inspected today. Turned out to be a pretty good day

Re: thinning the herd
Yes agree But ....
She is not gone yet. Going to take a special person to want her as unique as she is. 75 front end, 75 Carbs, 77 Engine, 78 Wiring, 78 tour pac, 79 frame, and a hundred other oddities. I won't be asking the moon but I won't give her away either.
Took Rusty with this morning and finalized the parts for next weeks Jeep build. I am up to about 7,400 USD. Told her with the run to Oregon in August we had reached our play money limit for the year. The new front bumper, winch, and lighting etc would have to wait another year. Selling the 75 helped a lot as would selling this one.

Re: thinning the herd
Took the dressed 1000 out for a blast. She had real struggles about about 75 mph. It felt like she was dropping more then 1 cylinder. Definitely not right. Went back home and tried to talk myself out of going through the carbs again but failed. I started tearing things apart when I got to the Air Cut off Valve it was not screwed down. Apparently the last mechanic (Me) was an idiot. Put everything back together and tried the thruway again. This time she pulled well up to 100 mph. Tires are aged so I did not push it past that.
Hopefully tomorrow I can get her out for a decent run. in the meantime she is listed on FB Market place
