Test Ride Video, Resurrected 76
It has been a while since I started this project. I have relied heavily on advice and guidance from NGWC. Thank you all. I have some "tweaking" to do at low RPM's but am pretty happy with this test ride. I purchased a used GoPro. Here is the video. ( I don't usually drive this aggressively ). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5T_ym18oj4

Sounds like she's running pretty well. It always feels good to 'give 'er the beans' once in a while! Enjoy the ride!

Now that you've seen the video and how responsive the bike was, I would like feedback regarding the compression readings that I recorded earlier today. Keep in mind that the bike was idle for 13 years and I have only put on approx. 75 miles. I am a bit mystified that a bike with such low readings has so much pull and also does not burn any oil. 110,105,100,105. And, yes, the engine was fully warm, the throttle was held wide open and I had a battery charger connected. All of the plugs look like this one:

Have you tested other engines with this compression tester, too ? Continuously cranked the engine until the needle will no longer rise any higher on the pressure gauge face? The valve lash clearance is set at what number? 0.004...0.006...
A Best Practice is to compression test the individual cylinders when the engine is "cold ."

Re: Test Ride Video, Resurrected 76
I guess the compression guage could be faulty. I have tested my 76 Ltd. a number of times. It too reads at or near 110 and performs beautifully. I'll borrow my neighbor's and post an update.

Re: Test Ride Video, Resurrected 76
The first 1100 I resurrected had similar compression numbers. I haven't tested it recently, but it really doesn't matter as it still pulls like a freight train, uses a nominal amount of oil, and gets pretty fair gas mileage 20k plus miles later. I will add that my stepson has put on the last 10k plus miles, and his riding style is far less conservative than mine, lol!
Enjoy the ride!

You and I had discussed the importance of the compression test adaptor's check valve location and its proximity to the cylinder head combustion chamber during our telephone conversation, Wednesday evening:leonardhcross wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 5:43 pm I guess the compression guage could be faulty.
