Re: New Tool for Float Bowl Level Verification
Thank you, Cedric. Water doesn't stink, as well.
EDIT March 15th-
isopropyl alcohol was suggested as a rubber safe testing liquid in another member's Topic. I will try it...

Isopropyl alcohol was perfect test fluid.
Here's the results.... Yes, the New Tool for Float Bowl Level Verification works Very Well

The purpose of this inverted photo of the carburetor rack is only to present why the # 4 ( also #1 ) carburetor body's flange isn't touching its vertical transparent fluid level testing tube.
If you absolutely must see both vertical fluid level tubes OD touching their respective carburetor body flange, temporarily swap on two fuel bowls with switched position drain screw holes borrowed from another pair of GL carburetors. ( id est .. carburetor positions numbers 3 and 2 )
I set-up this GL1000 carburetor rack on my pickup's tailgate. note the protractor I used to level the tailgate test surface.cfairweather wrote: ↑Mon Feb 12, 2024 9:35 am snip-

Pretty sure many of your pick flipped upside down. Based on the gravity I know of and the drain screw on the bottom of the bowls.

ooops...I should have made the previous testing photos delineate the actual Verified Float Bowl fluid content Levels The isopropyl alcohol is easily drained out of the float bowls.cfairweather wrote: ↑Mon Feb 12, 2024 9:35 am snip-

i'm pretty good at setting the float levels with the Randakk tools,... but I love that tool for double checking the levels. I would even say it is a great tool to start with

Re: New Tool for Float Bowl Level Verification
Cyborg, totally agree ! I’m pretty good at the carb setup but this is a great tool for checking the setup ! I’ve learned over the years the more equal and consistent cylinder to cylinder you can make things on these bike the better they will run. And this is one more way to check it all.
Good job Cliff !
Thankyou for doing these Cedric, now I just need to check mine on a good back day,,,, but to be honest I’m a little afraid to check and find out I’m not nearly as good at this as my ego thinks it is…..

Re: New Tool for Float Bowl Level Verification
Don't be surprised if a couple of them need to be adjusted. I have set many of them very carefully with the gauge and then had to adjust them. Honestly, I don't even use the gauge much these days. I usually adjust them visually and by feel, then check them with the visual float gauge tool. I agree that it is best to get these all set to the same level so the carbs are as equal as possible. After setting the floats with a gauge, I have found that the level will be as high as the middle part of the rim. You do not want the level to exceed the middle part of the rim and I believe the best point it at the lower edge, just as Cliff has them set. If you set the level higher than the middle of the rim, expect your carbs to overflow at some point. Stick with the lower edge if you wat to be safe. Also, I don't even install the float bowl gasket when I set the floats. I just use two screws for the bowls until I get them all set correctly. Don't forget to verify when the floats OPEN the valve too as this is just as important as when the floats close the valve. I wrote more about this in another thread.

Re: New Tool for Float Bowl Level Verification
Agreed Doug

This excellent Float Bowl liquid Level Verification Tool and my *must have* carburetor pressure test air pump tool, to verify if liquid fuel circuit sealing components are intact.

Who decided that 20+ lbs. of air pressure was a sufficient amount to determine that the fuel system is sealed?
IDK much compared to some of you guys,
but that seems like an awful lot of pressure to me.

i agree. hard to believe the valves in the carbs would even hold that much . the pump only puts out about 5 on a good daydontwantapickle wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 11:25 pm Who decided that 20+ lbs. of air pressure was a sufficient amount to determine that the fuel system is sealed?

Re: New Tool for Float Bowl Level Verification
Think about it though. That pump is "sucking" on the valves. So the more pressure the harder it "pulls" on the rubber tipped valve. Not really an accurate test IMO.CYBORG wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 8:11 ami agree. hard to believe the valves in the carbs would even hold that much . the pump only puts out about 5 on a good daydontwantapickle wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 11:25 pm Who decided that 20+ lbs. of air pressure was a sufficient amount to determine that the fuel system is sealed?

Re: New Tool for Float Bowl Level Verification
I agree with Robin, but it would be a good test for the plenum fuel seals. I test these with a vacuum pump as Randakk suggests with rubber plugs in the holes, but the rubber tipped float valves accomplish the same thing.
