Greetings (GWeetings?) from central Virginia

Howdy and thanks for the add.

I've had about a dozen different street bikes over the past 8+ years (suffering from "Next Bike Syndrome", but I've also done a couple of fix-n-flips).

Last year I sold my two BMW sport tourers (R1150RT and K1200GT) to get a 2018 Gold Wing DCT, which I absolutely love (fantastic bike).

Thus began my interest in the Big Honda.

I browse Facebook Marketplace every single day (always looking for interesting things), and last week I brought home this way cool 1975 GL1000.

It definitely has seen some neglect in its life, but it came with some decent documentation, including a copy of the original title from the original purchaser, the original owner's manual, a factory service manual, and a big box of parts and pieces.

It runs and drives, but definitely needs a lot of cleaning (this is the greasiest, grungiest bike I think I've ever seen), and a good tune-up.

I know, I know: TIMING BELTS! They're already on order.

I've also ordered all the cables (clutch, choke, throttle(s), tach) and some other bits.

This is how she looks right now:

I'm already bookmarking all the great links here and downloading the write-ups. Great stuff!

I have zero intention of doing a full-blown restoration. I just want to get her cleaned up and running well, so that she's reliable and safe to ride. I'll use it for local riding - Bikes and Coffee; Bike Night; local vintage bike events, etc.

I've got El Monstro for interstate cruises:

Sounds like you fit in well here.

Nice score on the 1000.

Maybe start a rebuild thread on the bike to keep some pics coming, we love pics....
