Gents;
Lovely weekend here, and as I had a doctor's appointment on Saturday I took the Wing. A perfect trip, sunny and warm, no humidity, no bugs and a fresh cortisone shot in my right shoulder.

Towed the 75 1,044 miles this weekend. Took it out to the Possum Gathering in Tenn in an attempt to sell it. No bites. Will be listed locally here in a day or two after I get caught up with some other work and get a chance to wash the road grime off her.

Just the tires. it is a "Trailer in a Bag" so it comes apart to fit in a trunk or for storage. It is for sale locally.

I know what you mean. I have to pull the rear tour pac off the 78 to do the gas tank swap and if there was a short cut I would try it. Unfortunately there is not. Changing a gas tank on a regular bike is naught but a couple hours. This will be a full day.

Finally got back to the bikes for a couple hours this afternoon. A while back I had stuck Marilyn's (Randakks old show bike) original carbs on a bike and they got some contaminated gas. So I tore them apart a week or two ago just planning to go through the bottoms. Today I worked on them a bit and then checked the float valves for holding a vacuum. It did not, but it was not the float valves. I submerged the entire rack and hit them with about 5 psi and found a nasty leak between the # 1 body and the plenum. So full tear down was in order.

Now as I was told Pete built these carbs special for Randakk. Randakk never liked the way they ran and installed a set of his own.

Upon disassembly I found RTV between the plenum halves and between the carb bodies and the plenum. The stuff between the bodies and the plenum was concentrated at the fuel D Ring. :IDTS: :IDTS: :IDTS: :IDTS: :roll: :roll: :roll:

So far I only got to the one side. Hopefully tomorrow I will split the other two and see what surprises those hold.

I can not imagine who or why such a blatant faux pas happened. :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

I can't see Pete or Randakk putting RTV on them. Someone else has been there.

Yea strange for sure, I got them straight from Randakk's hands and he told me the history. Very hard to figure out for sure what happened. I do know the seals are all Black not the Brown of the current version so it was done a good "while" back. FYI I have heard in confidence of others finding similar workmanship from some of Pete's older racks.

That 75 rack is finished and ready for install. Found the same stuff on 2/4 side. Whoever did it was precise, it was almost identical on all 4 carbs, just around the fuel transfer D Ring.

After that I started cleaning out a spare gas tank for my dressed 1000. Did the shake with the nuts and bolts then Muriatic acid for about 10 minutes followed by a good fresh water flush (4 times). Finally a generous coating of WD-40 and then about an hour hooked up to my shop vac to suck the insides dry.

Came out pretty good I think
