I was at the shop of an automotive machinist late last week and we got to talking about motorcycles. When I mentioned that I had a 78 GL1000, he immediately had me go to a room attached to his shop to see this:
I'm sure some of you have seen these. It's called a Pulse Autocycle and it has a GL1000 motor in the back end. Evidently only 347 of these were made and they've become quite rare. My new friend intends to get it all back together and on the road. I hope he does because this is one cool vehicle! I'll post more pictures when he makes progress. I'm giving him some spare GL parts to help in his effort.
Here's something unique!

I too work on one of those for a good friend of mine. They are a curious blend of car, jet plane and motorcycle parts that really test all of your mechanical skills!

Re: Here's something unique!
Here are a couple shots of the engine out of the "bike":
Note the interesting re-use of the chopped frame, rear wheel, etc. The special tube steel frame attaches the original GL frame/drivetrain to the Pulse. Look closely at the extra radiator hose. That's for the heat!
Carbs need to come out for a total overhaul and I'm trying to convince him that those nasty belt and valve covers need to be powder coated. Since he's a machinist, I'm sure we can work a trade for services.

Seems to be a mixture of GL1000 and GL1100 bits there. I wonder when they were building those did they use new or used donor bikes?

Re: Here's something unique!
I'm sure that they were used, since these were built between 1984-1990. There's some great information about them here: http://www.autocycles.org/Liam wrote:Seems to be a mixture of GL1000 and GL1100 bits there. I wonder when they were building those did they use new or used donor bikes?
