I don't want to act cranky but the other gasket is likely to move too. Gaskets don't just sit there on the highway, the engine and heads expand and contract under unusual heating conditions.
Not changing the other is throwing the dice against yourself a bit but I'm hoping for you.

If you can get as far as Motocycho (new name) the side car can be delivered with a hearse (interesting mind pix if you can imagine a sidecar hooked to a hearse) , or Lord knows what they have there to attach it to.
In your honer I have opened a nice bottle of wine I expected to share with you.
On my next trip north my first stop with be the shop with its own honorary mortician.
Enjoy life,

Yep, I have Bronco and a trailer if you decide to come on. Weather is going to be colder by Thursday and then probably warm up by the weekend just a bit.

Has James made the Cyclepsycho shop yet? I'm off soon to San Jose to help unload a bike from a crate but I'll be only an hour away if James makes the Bay Area tonight.
I'll leave a key for him if he comes in when I'm not home.

sorry, been offa the 'net,

thanks for everybodies worries and offers of help. I'm still in Portland at the shop. everything is back in place but...

well, second verse same as the first.
the new gasket (or the head itself) is still blowing coolant, but not as bad as when it went out on the freeway. we had the head surfaced but it could've developed a crack or something?

I know it's a tough call w/o being here and seeing it dismantled, but any ideas. I'm afraid to ride it down the street, much less even back home.

Cookie, sorry I didn't call you specifically, I was hoping you'd see my posts here about the troubles I'm having AND my cell phone died (I didn't bring the wall charger, only the one I built into the bike).

A crack is always possible. Have you run it long enough to make sure she got up to temp and cooked out all the residual crap? Also did you do the work or the shop? Head surfaces spotless and torque wrench from this century? Grease under the heads of the bolts and on the threads? OEM Gasket?

Whew, He's not broken down in the middle of nowhere. That sounds like a true pain James.
Let us know when you get going. I would also suspect the other side gasket if the block and head were clean and checked.
Enjoy life,
Cookie

they're magna-fluxing the head at the moment & I'm waiting for the call.

I'm hoping it's the head as I have a spare at home & I'll take the train home tonight, come back this weekend and go on.

yes, it was a Honda head gasket for $47!! they had a machine shop surface the head yesterday before re-installing. they ran it for a few minutes before I got there and I rode it for about 10-15 minutes up & down the road at 35mph.

the mech did use motor oil to lube the threads as he didn't have any moly grease. and I printed the diagram from another thread here about the torque-ing order of the bolts when putting it back on...

so, no, I'm not doing th work. unfortunately. yes, I'm going kinda batty as I seem to remember a recent thread from me about letting other people tough my stuff. but, here I am.

thanks to all,
...james.
