Congrats on BOTM - very, VERY nicely done! You will get compliments from anyone who sees it, young or old. It has a look that will appeal to anyone who appreciates motorcycles. You've set the bar high for 2019's bikes of the month.

Thanks elslimdiablo!

The rear turn signals are mounted directly to the fiberglass tail section and the front turn signals are mounted in the exact same location as the factory units:

Thanks for the kind words tomk1960! I love these old Goldwings and hopefully this might inspire the younger crowd to take an interest and help preserve these bikes.

There has been a few questions about the seat and I have a few photos of what the bike looked like with the original seat (and directionals) and will alternate those with newer seat pics. The new seat will ride two - depending on how much "junk in the trunk" the driver and passenger have! shakehands
-
I hope everyone has a sense of humor as I vowed these photos (with original seat and directionals) would never see the light of day, so at the risk of having the "Bike of the Month" recognition pulled, here they are (enjoy!):

I enlarged one of you pictures. Are those speaker pods mounted on the frame? (about horn level) At first I thought it was added lighting.

Jonesz wrote:Hey CrazyJerry wondering what color the bike was painted. I am wondering about the main color and not the accent stripe. Really like this a lot.
Jonesz,
I don't know how I missed this post from you but the paint used for the main color is a mix of the following two colors:
-
2013 Hyundai Tucson
Garnet Red Mica
-
2006 Ford F-150 PICKUP
Dark Toreador Red Metallic
-
Neither color has particularly good coverage so the parts got a coat of black primer first, then the mixed base colors sprayed over that. 3 heavy coats of clear allowed for a good wet sand and buff afterward.
-
NAPA will mix any color paint in aerosol cans. For small jobs like these it works really well!

Thanks for the paint info CrazyJerry, looks really deep and shiny. Guessing that is a result of the 3 clear coats, wet sanding and buffing. You did a fantastic job using aerosol spray cans and really deserve the BOTM accolades. Your bike has been my desk top background ever since you washed her up to put away for the cold weather.

Yes elslimdiablo, those are speaker pods. They operate via cell phone through a small amplifier under the shelter cover. When working on the bike they were great - not so much going down the road. My bucket list is to convert them to auxiliary lighting!

Jonesz - having this bike as your desktop background is truly a compliment - thanks! The depth on the paint is as you say - mostly from the clear (down to 2000 grit) then a quick buff. The stripes also help - they are right out of the spray can with no clear and with their satin finish, it compliments the main color in both "pop" and the "sheen".

Jerry,
You are just a wee bit crazy to have built such a beautiful, exemplary Goldwing. Congratulations, & therapy is now unnecessary.
Bravo.

If there is one thing I have learned throughout this process it is this: Check your respirator for spiders before you put it on.

Thank you for those kind words Patriccio! I wish therapy was not necessary, but the good news is that I really enjoy this type of rehabilitation!!
