Love those F models. Ever since the "original" SOHC Supersport. I registered over there. Maybe they'll accept a CBX'er. It's essentially an F anyway...
Thanks for the link!

A bunch of guys on the 1100F forum have CBX's. Your CBX is the 6 cylinder big brother to our DOHC's and is highly coveted. Come on over!desertrefugee wrote:Love those F models. Re: Found this nice '78 and now the resurrection begins...
I finally got the front end back together and on the bike. Disassembly, cleaning, pulling those stubborn fork seals, powder coating, and rebuilding took all the time. Sliding the tubes in and bolting on the 900C fender and wheel took no time at all. Like they always say - it's all in the prep.
Next will be the calipers and rear fender.

I love that 900C fender. I used one too. Perfect match for a sport GL1000. I bought it with the intention of painting it black, but the chrome was so nice with no rust even underneath that I used it in chrome instead.
Looks like you got a really nice specimen, too.

More progress...
Brakes are all set front and back, rear fender installed, handlebars, controls, and grips all in place. There are a few mods that should be obvious.
Time permitting, the carbs will go back on this weekend and then I just have to adjust the valves, install fresh valve covers and gaskets, install the Harley take-off mufflers, and button everything up. My goal is to finish by the end of the month, so I might just make it.

More progress over the weekend. Carbs installed, muffler brackets fabricated and Harley take-off mufflers installed. I'm hoping to wrap this up by next weekend. Getting anxious to fire this one up!

Re: Found this nice '78 and now the resurrection begins...
This past weekend I went through the punch list and ticked off most of the items, which included:
I'm assuming that my solenoid is junk, based on the symptoms described. Any comments or suggestions? New aftermarket solenoids aren't very expensive, so maybe I should just order one and pop it in.
My goal was to have this running by the end of September. I just made it!
- Made custom-length throttle cables to accommodate the shorter bars using a Venhill universal throttle cable kit
Adjusted the valves and installed new valve cover gaskets and restored covers
Bled the front brakes
Installed Harley mufflers for good
Filled the radiator

sure sounds like the starter relay, I am assuming you jumped across the lugs on the relay. I have no experience with after market ones, but a relay is a relay
BTW in August picked up a 78 "parts" bike (has most of the parts. trying to save the "best looking" one bike at a time

Yes, I jumped across the lugs to start the bike. So 12 from the battery is getting there. I'll make sure that the signal from the starter switch is also getting there.rcmatt007 wrote:sure sounds like the starter relay, I am assuming you jumped across the lugs on the relay. What color is the '78 you picked up? Is it naked or do you have to undress it for restoration?

Re: Found this nice '78 and now the resurrection begins...
naked. someone rattle canned flat black on the faux tank. It is missing the two side panels and radiator fins. the front fender was chopped (and flat black) and it is missing the rear fender. It is now "parts in boxes" and engine on a coaster. I am currently redoing my OEM 78 so this one will wait.
Sadly, when I look at your pictures I get the "black x" at work. So I cannot see how your bike is finishing up.

Re: Found this nice '78 and now the resurrection begins...
I didn't post any new pictures this time. Once I take care of a few more little things, the bike will come off the lift and get rolled into the driveway for a proper warm-up, carb sync, and "burp" the cooling system. Then I'll take a couple more pictures of it pretty much all done. There are still a couple of electrical items to square away, but not too much is left. If all goes well, I should be able to put a few miles on it before riding season ends. It's good to finally have this one ready to see the light of day.

what happens is that our work computer "filters" out certain sites where pictures might be hosted. I cannot see youtube links here either
