Re: Speeduino efi 1981 gl1100
question.
Is anyone on here in the process of sniffing out an ignition map from the original mechanical and vacuum advance system?
that might be handy.
the simulation of the mechanical system that i have run causes the engine to race. but i wont know what is the cause until i fix all the intake manifold vacuum leak issues.
i also need to figure out some method of electric field shielding. yesterday it picked up an rpm signal from the neighbors lawnmower several houses away durring a mild electrical storm. not sure if the thunder storm amplified the effect of the electrical noise, but it sure made my ecu think that the bike was running while it was not. so i had better learn about blocking electrical noise. today there was no thunder and no lawnmowers running within hearing distance and the ecu ran fine, aside from needing a spark map, solid intake manifolds, a throttle linkage, and some highway time in autotune mode.

Basically just need to add back the engine mounts, rebuild some leaky fuel lines, and build a mounting plate for the bell housing throttle linkage and cable guides

How does your left knee like it??

Re: Speeduino efi 1981 gl1100
It's pretty close. I'm thinking I might switch the throttles to the front so I'm not gasin it with my knee. Another inch or two forward and it wouldn't be an issue at all. It's a matter of switching the throttlebodies to oposite sides. Maybe throw some bug deflectors over the throttle workings if I mount them forward.

Swapped the cam trigger to the cam pully after carving notches in the face of it. Fuel pump drive was just losing too much oil. Now to timing wheel is 40-1.

Re: Speeduino efi 1981 gl1100
Bike runs pretty good now. Not sure if it is as good as the perfectly restored carbs and vac advance. But it is close after only a few rides. Accelerator enrichment needs some tuning. And I'd like to try some different spark maps and see if I can get any more power or economy. Maybe build up different maps for the seperate octane grades. So far I've been running a spark table with no vac advance. That seems to work best for now. The bike seems to have lots of performance but low fuel economy. Hopefully a more refined spark table and matching fuel table will improve fuel range. Also I need to mount my cam angle sensor into the stock belt cover. Protection from a stray rock or bird would add a nice safety factor.

Great project mojogameplay! Some interesting ignition trigger solutions there. How do you like the msdroid app?
You asked about ignition maps, here's what am using on the usquirt project. Did seem to help mileage to include engine load in addition to rpm. Btw, not using any fancy load calculation for this, just straight map sensor reading, in kpa's as shown.

It's been a while since I posted an update. Lately if been running the speeduino ecu on alpha-n ignition table and Afr table. The VR table is still rpm and map based. Running the ignition table based in throttle and rpm, seems to give a better throttle response. I believe the lag in throttle response may be because map is a product of throttle position. So now my ignition advance is set by the source of the map signal instead the product of a thing. Drivability at low speeds suffers. May be that I don't have enough low TPS readings on the ignition map. My ignition map is pretty similar to the one pictured above. I'm maxed out at 39 degrees and I'm alot lower on advance everywhere on my ignition map. But maybe that's why I have lousy throttle response running speed density algorithm. Also I'm not sure what Afr targets I should be setting. The bike seems to run on pretty much anything once you auto tune it. I will have to capture some screenshots of my maps and post them up for constructive criticism. I'm mostly just making it up as I go along when it comes to the tuning and mapping. Also I've moved my cam sensor into the belt cover. And installed LEDs into the stock gauges and some of the signal lights. I almost converted all the lights to led to free up power for the fuel pump, but it looked like my battery was overcharging and the reg/rectifier was getting hot. So I left the running light signal lights in the front stock to make the charging rate match stock setup. Oh and I didn't count the number of bulbs I would need so the tach had to have one blue bulb in the bottom when I ran out of green. I like the gradient. Also setting the sensor into the cover made it pretty annoying to set the initial timing angle for the cam sensor.
And I really need to learn how to weld aluminum. Those conduit pipe intake manifolds are being held together by a self adhesive fix all tape(really good product). But if i have too many more exploding backfires through the intakes I'll be needing a proper build for the intake manifolds.

Re: Speeduino efi 1981 gl1100
Oh. About the ms droid app. I have not been using the ms droid app at all. The speeduino ecu can only communicate on the usb line or by Bluetooth but not both. So I can't run msdroid on my phone until I am done all mapping and setup on the tablet. Also the msdroid app had a habit of scrambling the fuel map on the ecu upon connection, so that's not ideal. I bought a refurbished RCA cambio tablet. It's a windows computer. So tuner studio is running in the tablet inside the Vetter windjammer. 6 ft of printer cable connects the tablet to the ecu and I wired a usb charger into the Vetter pocket. So the tablet can charge up and auto tune the fuel map as I drive. I'm not sure if I will switch to the msdroid app anytime soon. My main snag right now is that I don't know how to get the Honda iacv to control idle. The iacv stepper motor doesn't seem to work so it's a handy feature, that for now, I have to live without. The bike came with a nice chrome throttle lock, so I can just lock in a high idle at start up. I found a low cost CBR 1000rr throttle bodies on eBay. It's almost exactly the same throttle bodies as the cbf1000. So now I have a second iacv to test plus 4 backup injectors and a spare throttle position sensor. I'm considering a second version of the throttle body setup where I don't split the four throttle bodies. I would just hide it under the false tank and run plumbing from stock intake manifolds to the throttle bodies. I would think throttle response might suffer if the injectors got too far away from the valves. But that's all a plan b if I get tired of swinging my left knee out to make room for the throttle body.

Re: Speeduino efi 1981 gl1100
Going to give socraces spark map a try. Should be able to switch algorithm back to speed density. Having the minimum pressure at 50 kpa and the high advance should achieve a similar throttle response as using tps and rpm based ignition. Hoping to gain back the smoother low speed performance. Looking to achieve a happy medium between speed density and alpha-n.
