1500 coils and a dyna on a 78. pressure in fuel tank?
For anyone that has done the coil swap, would I be ahead to remove the windjammer first? What all besides the shelter sides and air filter box needs to come off to get access?
The coils appear new, I'll check ohms before installing and follow the dyna instructions, I assume I remove the ballast resistor and condensers?
I just bought 10' of new plug wire for my cb750 dragbike project so I'm making new copper core wires and re-using the nearly new ngk resistor caps.

Re: 1500 coils and a dyna on a 78. Q?'s
You can get them in as described, it's tight but doable. I'm not sure if there is enough slack in all the connections to remove the whole shelter. Maybe someone else knows.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

I've changed coils just removing the air cleaner housing. Did not have to remove any of the shelter. The fairing I can't say without being there.

Re: 1500 coils and a dyna on a 78. Q?'s
I got the dyna today, I'm planning on finding a power source other than the turn signals. That seems funky to me. I don't mind a little wiring. With 1500 coils and the dyna do I still need the ballast resistor? I seem to read it both ways.

Re: 1500 coils and a dyna on a 78. Q?'s
Dyna says no ballast needed for coils with a minimum resistance of 3ohms. The 1500's I had were 3.1 ohms.

Why not use Dyna coils too?

I just never understood buying a new ignition then putting used coils on.

1500 coils are cheap and reliable.

Your spending the money on a new ignition so cost shouldn't be a factor. A system that is made to work together seems logical. And reliability isn't much of a concern with coils. IMO
I'm done.

I can't help but add, but after I thought it was sold, turns out it is not. It? I have a complete Dyna S ignition never installed still in box all the paperwork. PM me if you're interested. I can't seem to get rid of the darn thing.
I'd be happy to sell just the coils. Sorry for the sales pitch, but it fits the topic.

No worries, I already got one. My dragbkie's on the lift, ARD mag on my 750 won't make a steady spark so I'll take it off the lift for now and get busy on the gl. I got my 750 diecast running, so I have plenty of runners again.

Re: 1500 coils and a dyna on a 78. Q?'s
Well I got the 1500 coils mounted, new primary and secondary wires made, I cleaned and lubed the wiring terminals while I was in there. It was much easier to remove the windjammer just to reach the left side stock coil bolts. I used the 1500 coil mounts with fabricated angle brackets. The bike started right up and ran for a few seconds, now I'll install the dyna.
