Facelift for my 76 LTD
Hi Folks, been riding my 76 LTD for a couple of years now, after a mechanical going over when I got it.
Found out the head gaskets and water pump were leaking, original panels looked good, except for some covered over scuffing and gouging. The gas tank was replaced with a new one by the PO, but they used a spray can paint with no primer, that was rough in places. Also had some really big dents in the frame from a jammer. So I decided to bring this one back. Stripped her down, had my welder buddy repair the frame, then fill to prepare for powder coat. I took the engine down to the short block assembly, cleaned and painted engine parts with dupli-color ceramic paint. Replaced all gaskets and seals. Installed new water pump, belts, and rollers. See post: https://www.ngwclub.com/forum/viewtopic ... 23#p702323. I have sent the panels out to my auto body guy to have him wet sand and clear coat. He's really good at this stuff and he does motorcycle stuff regularly. This ones real early, #52, so I'm trying to do a good job on it. Another ten years from now, I'll have to put a trike kit on it.

Re: Facelift for my 76 LTD
Engine now assembled, New rollers installed, Bolting on frame. Used my grandfathers old block and tackle that he started using before the depression. First time I used it for something other than a wall hanging. Worked well for the light load, but back on the wall it goes again. All other parts are cleaned and ready to go back on. Hope to finish by next week.
Now to find the right seat from a 77....Cheers, Albert

Thank you all, it's been fun. I'd put the engine in the living room, if I was single. Thankfully I am not, so in the bike it goes.

Got the center stand, swing arm, and tank in today. Also lubed all cables. Slow steady progress.
Sure would be nice to find the chrome springs for the center and side stands, I can get the zinc plated ones all day long.

Your local chrome shop can fix that...bottona wrote:Got the center stand, swing arm, and tank in today. Also lubed all cables. Slow steady progress.

Re: Facelift for my 76 LTD
Anybody out there ever put the tank in before putting the wiring harness in place first? Kinda hard to put those big plugs thru the gap between tank and frame. DOH!!!!! Luckily, the tank was the only part in the way.

Awesome. Perhaps a tie w/ Peter in Australia for quality of workmanship.
If there is one thing I have learned throughout this process it is this: Check your respirator for spiders before you put it on.
