Throttling up the Carbs or (What the Heck was I Thinking...)
If your memory's good you'll remember I'm using a pair of 70+yr.old carbs. The first order of biz
is to come up with a fresh workable ball & socket set-up.
this is the butterfly shaft and that little ball thingee ain't gona work. It's worn out and wrong size for newer ends. with some tiny welding of a Weber ball pivot, I'll be able to use EZ to find linkage parts. This is for the downstream
carb the throttle will be on the other side. the upstream carb was sleeved with some brass tubing to mount the bell crank. I fabbed it from 1/4'' alloy and threaded in some dandy allen head set screws. thread up some alloy rod and some socket ends from Jeg's...and that gives you something that looks like this... and the other side. The slight bend in the link bar allows for the carb offset keeps things looking parallel.
If we can't fix it, we can fix it so no one else can.

Lights.. Action...
the final bits of the wiring are done. The main box or as I like to call it the 'R-Unit' is anchored with Rivnuts
and has disconex to make it removable. Starter relay is at the top and brake light relay is at the bottom of photo.
Key works OFF-ON-ON/LIGHTS. Old Skool. Oh yeah The main box sends power forward to here via internal wiring. I made the tail light from aluminum plate with a little support Tigged in. Tail light is rubber mounted. I painted the license plate. It's done in 1949 (NGW) colors. Yes it's legal. Gotta love Texas. All works !! Love it when a (2yr. old) plan comes together.

...the pipes the pipes are call-llin'
Well we must be getting close. Exhaust is always close to the bottom of the checklist.
the chrome headers were something I acquired somewhere. A pair of 45deg. 1 3/4'' tubes will
serve for some mild Zoomie dumps. if I were smart I would have brazed them up and called it a day. Nope not smart. here is the mock up from the underside. I'll save the side view for the finish. So here they are prepped and headed to chrome (many days later) like I said, Not smart. Sooo much work. HOTT

Again - amazing. Can't wait to see it!
Goldwings don't accelerate, they gain inertia.
1978 GL1000 - almost stock - needs a head replaced, parts are ready to install!
1979 GL1000 - Winter project/parts bike - custom "Busted"
1983 GL1100 Standard- raised from the dead and back to organ donor status
And the newest acquisition, 1979 XS 650F to be a sidecar tug.

Getting closer. How are your softail pull shocks going to like those pipes so close? I know, they're HOTT.
