Front end identification
I bought a front end off a guy from work, he thought it was going to work for an old honda cb but never got around to using it. It's got dual piston calipers and an odd looking adjustable break lever. The calipers look like a direct replacement for my '78 gl1000 but I'd like to get new pads and maybe a rebuild kit if I need it. I already pulled the fender and it's on my 78, I think it looks alot better than the stock one with all the bracing. Any one know what this is off of, can I use the forks if I need to.

Looks like the front end off a CB900F, circa 1980-83.

The axle cap studs are smaller on the new front end compared to my '78 front end. The rotors look different also, they have ovals along the inside edge, my '78 rotors have a solid brake contact surface. Can I (should I?)still use these rotors, the calipers fit fine.

+1 on the early 82 ish Honda, as the big inline fours had the vented rotors on the 82 and up models with that same style of dual piston calipers and the same style master cylinder. The front fork lower slides were a leading axel design though on the CB900C models from 82 onward and those don't have that feature. They are more like an 80-81 model lower design, so possibly the sliders were replaced and are a mix and match set up. If they are a 80/81 CB 900F then possibly they used the vented rotor but not the leading axel design in the earlier years.
The fork caps also have the air suspension feature although are missing the crossover air fitting and this was again a feature Honda offered on this era of fork assembly.
The front fender you have on the bike from that fork assembly is backwards, unless you want that hole up on the right side where it is located presently.

Measure the fork diameter. If its 37mm, its from a 1981 CB750F. If its 39mm, its from a 1981-1982 CB900F. If the fender came with the front end, its a CB750. The 900's had a small "foil" at the rear of the fender.

I'm really interested in what I have so I can rebuild the calipers, they are both stuck and need to be rebuilt. The rotors look to be in good shape. Right now I'm just running on one stock caliper on my bike. This front end has 2 dual piston calipers, all the brake lines and both rotors.
Maybe tomorrow I can try to measure the fork diameter.

I'm pretty sure the brakes swap straight over without need of the fork swap if you don't want to.I seem to recall seeing a post by Old Fogey about the brake upgrade but I could be mistaken.

Definitely a CB900f, the reflectors on the fork lowers are a dead giveaway.

Contact Georgefix on ebay. Measure the pistons. He may be able to get you rebuild kits from that. And at the same time let you know what the calipers are from. Although they were probably used on several different bikes. Or take those same measurements and do a search on the various bikes they were used on.
