Picture number one makes it look like you have already "fired it up". Nice work on the wiring.
I have been trying to pace you on this rebuild with my '78 but as I am still trying to get the rust out of the tank, I haven't gotten to the wiring yet but the engine is in the frame and I am hoping to fire mine up in a few more days.

I had a ridiculously early wake up this morning (2AM) to put my Family on a plane back to Washington State and it was Hotter than the sun so nothing happened today. I thought about going out to the shop but at noon the heat index was 103 so I laid low and did some other chores. Maybe tomorrow I will get back at it, I hope. Still a few things to do before the engine goes in. I want to pull the rear wheel and clean/ inspect the driveshaft and while I have the fairing off I want to check the steering stem bearing for proper torque. I suspect they may be loose but it is hard to check when the fairing is installed. Plus I need to do some serious clean up in the shop. I tend to lay things around when I am working and it is pretty horrible right now.

Lost the weekend to a trip to Mid Ohio for Vintage days and to pickup another Fulmer touring kit from Alwing. Had a bunch of chores this morning but did manage to sneak out to the shop for a few hours this afternoon. Pulled the swing Arm and the driveshaft. Cleaned inspected and lubed everything up and reinstalled them. Checked the steering stem and felt a bit of a notch at center. I cycled it through a few times and it went away. It already has tapered bearings and there was no play in the bearings so I elected to let it be. Decided to go ahead and hang the engine before I reassembled the rear end so it would be easier to hook up the driveshaft. Nothing hooked up just hard mounted, and now I can reassemble the rear end and then start hooking up stuff on the engine. Got the new bearings in for the tensioners but have to do some running around and source the bolts and do that.

94 in the shop today so I vacuumed the house. Supposed to be 97 tomorrow and humid as heck so I will probably wax floors or something silly. Gonna be a temperature break over the weekend and hopefully I can get something done.

Come on, 94 in my shop today too. I worked on a set of 36mm Mikuni's for a KZ. Then took a set of carbs off a 75 GL to start on a rebuild. Yeah, it's hot. Walked in to the house and almost froze. LOL

Yea it is gonna be bad today. Calling for a heat index of 105 or better. Might get motivated enough to source the bolts for the tensioner rebuilds. If I get my hands on them then I will be forced to work on them

Pretty warm down here in South Texas too and very humid. If I can get out in the morning it isn't too bad. I have a big 4 foot commercial fan that I roll into the garage door opening and fire up. That helps a lot. But I am looking forward to October

Just finished rebuilding the tensioners. That was easy. Got some 8.8 10mm bolts from the hardware and welded them on the back of the plates. One washer on the front to help with the spacing and presto. My thermometer say 95 in the shade right now, they are calling for 98. I have a hurricane fan in the shop and that makes it OK for a couple hours at a time. Just need to come inside to cool off and hydrate for a bit in between. Maybe after a break I will install the tensioners and start reassembling the rear end to get the bike rolling again.

Long hard day in the shop. Got a lot done but had a few setbacks. Started with soldering up the stator wires then installed the driveshaft. Got that done easily enough. I Struggle with that dang rubber boot every time. I would rather do 10 of the circlips than one of those boots!!
P7161508.JPG

Anyway got that done, hooked up the clutch cable lower end
P7161510.JPG

Then cleaned up the rear wheel and got that all installed. I changed out the tensioners with the new ones I built. They required a bit of grinding on the back but it went well. Then I remembered I had not installed the engine wiring harness so I had to unbolt the engine and slide it over a bit to hook up the neutral switch wire. That cost some backwards time.

Next I built up the electric fuel pump and mounted that and decided to check the fuel filter before hooking up the hose and that is when the Train left the rails. The Fuel filter was almost completely full of crap. It was packed in there like tobacco in a pipe.
P7161511.JPG
P7161515.JPG
WT Heck!! So I opened up the fuel tank and it was a MESS. When I originally built this bike I had that tank professionally cleaned and coated with Red Kote. Supposed to the best there was. This was about 8 years ago I think. I took a chunk of garden hose and using siphon basically vacuumed the bottom of the tank and this is what I got
P7161519.JPG
So I have spent most of the afternoon cleaning up this mess. I think it is the red Kote with a small amount of metal in it. It is slightly magnetic but crumbles easily. I flushed the tank about 6 times, vacuuming it out with the garden hose each time. It is pretty clean now and will have to do until winter. I have a spare tank or 2 and will get one of them cleaned up and install it after Deer Season

I have to say I am hugely impressed with that fuel filter. It is one of Randakks and it performed brilliantly. Had this been one of the old Emgo's I am sure I would have had many issues. It is amazing this thing ran at all.

If my knees hold up ( I am feeling today's efforts) and I have a good day tomorrow she should fire up toward evening. Still have to wire in the fuel pump, clean then hook up the exhaust, install front engine heat shield, Carbs, Radiator, Advancer and Dyna, and I forget what all else.
