Pistol Pete's GL1000 Carb Services...

Post by katmol »

If you need carb work done on your old GL I can not say enough good things about Pistol Pete's. The stock carbs on of my '76 GL1000 had been on and off so many times over the past twenty years I could almost do it blind folded but never got them to run right. I had taken them to local "experts" in Dallas,TX when I lived there and here in Boise over the past 15 years. I bought her new in '76 and started in the 90's with custom work on it. Had a friend that was a Honda race mechanic back in the day do all kind of things to them. Rejet, and re-rejet...swap vacuum slides with different year then drill the lift holds in those larger, etc..... You get the picture. They were thoroughly abused. I tried to take them back to stock a couple of years ago and it still ran like crap and leaked everywhere. I gave up.
I contacted Pistol Pete's and told them my story. I wound up buying a set of nasty stock cabs off Ebay that were locked up and look like the had set outdoors for years but they were 100% stock and all there. I sent them my nice pretty polished set that was so screwed up and the nasty Ebay set. In about 5 weeks the UPS guy came to my door with a masterpiece of carburetor work. They had taken both sets and dropped them in ultrasonic baths, completely disassembled them, cleaned them, and took the best parts from each carb and built a beautiful set of 100% stock Frankencarbs.
I took the assembly out of the box, bolted them on, and the bike came back to life. No adjustments needed!!! After the Wing being so sick for the past 20 years that I couldn't ride it for more than half an hour without becoming so frustrated that I would just go home and park in the garage of months, I now ride almost every day... "for hours".

Thank you Moose and Pistol!

They are the best! I read these stories about the "My Local Bike expert" all the time and just cringe. I don't think anyone in existence has done anywhere near the volume they have and their first time success rate is just phenomenal. On the very rare occasion that there is an issue they stand behind their work and make it right. Does not get any better.
