Still, I'm gonna wait this one out 'til he's done.

Thanks heaps everyone for all your input. It's roaring like an absolute champion again. I was getting a bit rusty on the old girl because it's been that long since I have really done any work on her. Learnt a couple of things though.

How to check coils
Easy way to check the Dyna
Run the bike more often to avoid the same thing again.

Just out of curiosity does anybody recommend turning off the fuel and running the carbies until empty if it's going to be sitting around or is there no point?

Anyway here she is sitting happy in the shed once again.

Beautiful Bike!
Yes, I would run it at a low-to-mid rpm until it starts to sputter, the go wide open throttle to finish it off, emptying the bowl's. Otherwise, drain them manually using the drain screw's.
Good Job on getting it squared-away in short order.

Great, bet your happy now it all come together anim-cheers1

Our fuel quality here in Aust seems to me, IMO has the ability to "sit" for many months >6 ? without having any signifcant issues on restart.... No crud or residue is likely to be found after 6 months.. Maybe drain it all prior to startup and refill with fresh fuel and "Bob's your uncle"

If i knew my bike was going to be sitting for a few months or more, i would turn fuel off and let it run/idle for a few minutes to use most of bowl fuel.. Always i use the centre stand or whatever required to make bike 90deg's ...... a few reasons ... leaky fuel tap, over filled sump, tyre flat spot, etc .

Yeah guys I am very happy it came together. I am getting the sidecar frame back from the sandblasted next week so wanted to start work in earnest on restoring the sidecar and getting it on the bike. .

Yeah I might start doing that from now on with both the bikes and run the fuel out before parking them up.

Here is a pic of the sidecar I'm restoring to go on it. It's going to be same colour with some matching pin striping. I will probably get rid of the raised bar for the cover and get a cover made to go level with the man hole.
