Off-the-shelf touch-up paint for '75 & '76: Candy Blue Green

#1

Post by BearWing »

I was doing a little work in the shop today, and was looking at my collection of touch-up paints. My '75 GL1000 is painted in Candy Blue Green Special (paint code PB2CS),and it has one or three small chips.

I have a bottle of Dupli-Color 'NG GM 440 Bright Aqua Metallic', and tried it.

It's not perfect, but it's very close, AND you can get it at most auto parts stores, or at Wal*Mart. I wouldn't paint the whole bike with it, but for the small, pinhead size chips it's very good.

Rattle canned my bags using same Duplicolor GM440 on a white base coat. Used white because that's what seems to be exposed at the OEM chips. Didn't seem to match very well until putting a couple coats of rattle can clear on top. Still not a perfect but close...

How many coats of the Duplicolor GM440
It needed about 3 or 4 coats to level the color...seems like there isn't much pigment in the paint. Painted outside on a nice warm day/no breeze so it only took about 20 minutes between coats. Light 600 wet sand to remove a few gnats and a sag and on with the clear.

That really is close...Nice job.....I don't suppose you could post a pic of the front of your bike? I'm interested in adding running lights to my 75..

Thanks,

Both of these companies are in Germany. I don't know if they can ship aerosols to the States.

'Impossible' is just a level of difficulty! The only stupid question is the one you didn't ask first!

Most candies require a silver (0r gold, depending on the top colour) base. Mine was done on silver and top coated with a Honda auto paint, but unfortunately Bill can't remember which one. :(
